Discuss Black Mirror

  1. Their whole plan was steal real life samples, die in VR and then hope he won't get samples again just at any company party? Wow, marvelous plan.

  2. Are we supposed to believe, game doesn't have any protection of user to get him out safely in case of colapse game, but it will literally kill user in real life? I don't think they would sell many accounts/games that way.

Whole episode was extremely boring until like 40-45 minutes when normal episodes almost finish, and started just at that time, so not really understanding what was the point making it that lengthy. I only hope the other episodes of S04 are much better, because this has to be probably the worst episode of Black Mirror.

I agree with you that this was not particularly good "Black Mirror", but that said, I kinda got where they were going at the very end. The idea that we are all "terrible gods." I can forgive the beginning cheesiness because it forces us to suspend belief a bit as we get acquainted to the "game."

game likely does USUALLY have fail-safes for such instances BUT he was on his private mod, unattached from the cloud and general play. when it deleted his mod, he was no longer in control and since he is not in the cloud or whatever, there's no way to get help.

I assume that when he doesn't show up for work, they would go to his house and find him. Unfortunately, for him (and likely the company), he would be at best severely dehydrated and at worst (and more likely) dead since the company is on break for 10 days.

in the investigation into how this game could have killed/severely injured someone they would find his mod and blame it on that. If he was still alive, they would likely fire him because he gave such bad press to the company. may even confiscate his DNA scanner, etc because of intellectual property (depends on how his contract was written (though from how poorly Walton treated him, i am guessing he got SCREWED by his contract!).

i really liked it, much better than Arkangel (that's as far as i am on this season)

Neither were particularly impressive, that's how far I am too.

I could not finish watching this episode.

Too bad. I liked it.

I thought it was terrible. Even if you overlook all of the scientific problems with this episode, the idea that a sociopath has created his own virtual universe where he can torture his coworkers who in turn plot against him is totally unappealing to me.

Better steer clear from Black Mirror then. Lots of similar themes.

Lol Black mirror is like the twilight zone but for technology it's so weird that you are like "I expected it to be different"

They all have a dark twist. Just like TZ. Dark twist. All of them. Only maybe "San Juniperno" and MAYBE "Be Right Back" though one of those is about a comatose lesbian who's family is trying to stop her from being free and the other is about a dead guy. Those are the two LIGHTEST episodes.

How would he get samples again? The game is up! Clearly they wouldn't blackmail the girl in to breaking in to his apartment and stealing shit without telling her why first, she was their only hope of this never happening again so it's a fair assumption that upon work resuming 10 days later he would either have police officers waiting for him to tackle any laws he might have broken relating to the company or a box waiting for him to clear out his desk and hand over his access to the infinity engine. He may have built it but the shareholders would have him out on the ear at the first hint of a scandal.

I already steer clear of this series ever since I saw the truly awful pilot episode. But I was just sucked in again recently after a friend told me to watch the Star Trek episode. I loved Star Trek so I wanted to see it but I was expecting something a lot different.

The pilot is the absolute worst episode of the show. Virtually worthless. The Trek-like episode was a little thin but I did like how it ended with a crew of digital intelligence off to adventure in a vast game world.

You should give the show one more chance since your exposure has been an unlucky brush with lesser episodes. I suggest Hang the DJ from this new season and perhaps from previous seasons Nosedive and my favorite Hated in the Nation.
