Discuss Lonesome Dove

In my eyes it is. Some might quibble that it wasn't released in theaters so it doesn't count, but it's just a long movie to me. Where it was shown doesn't factor into anything for me.

Its length gives it the advantage of better developed characters than any of the theatrical westerns. Gus and Call seem like real people by the end and that last scene with them is one of the most devastating things I've ever watched.

This film was a real saga, in the tradition of Red River. Got totally lost in the story and characters.

I like John Wayne's "The Cowboys"

Another great one.

There are a ton of westerns I love. (Unforgiven, Good, Bad, Ugly, Butch and Sundance, Liberty Valance) Not an insult to them really to say LD is my favorite. The ability to develop the characters of Gus and Call so well just made LD stand alone for me.

My favorite novel and western. "uva uvam vivendo varia fit"
