Overview
X檔案是聯邦調查局的一個部門，那裡面貯存著幾十年來遇到的無法解釋的超自然現象案件，兩位聯邦調查局探員追查一樁又一樁非同尋常的案件。
特別探員Fox Mulder在牛津大學修完心理學後，被調查局僱用，事業正一帆風順時，他卻突然將全部精力轉向了超自然事件。他對於X檔案中所隱藏真相的追尋著了迷，開始了全身心的調查工作。
特別探員Dana Scully在工作的過程中，看到了許多無論科學或是邏輯都解釋不通的事情，她的信仰受到了考驗，她漸漸開始相信外星生命的存在。
