Where did they get the name Robert Hogan?

I presumed it was from the highly, highly gifted actor who really bore that name and guest starred in the first season of the show (weird closing credits that made for). But I read that there really was a Stalag 13 in Germany and a real Col. Robert Hogan was a prisoner there.Eerie!
