Here's mine : I think the guy in the mask and Cora's parents were in on it together. Maybe they were doing some experiment to get Phoebe well. Another poster said both the gut she killed, and the masked guy were both in scrubs. The guy she killed wrote that song in med school. Maybe he was assisting in the whole underground "experiment". His friend did say he looked at Cora and it seemed like he recognized her and "let" her kill him.
Anyway, I'm curious to hear any other theories! I love this show.

Yes that is definitely a possibility. So let's say Franklin and JD were getting paid to do this, that means Maddie was a victim too. After all the drugs and sex games, things got serious. That would explain why Cora said they were hunted in the woods. They maybe managed to escape at one point and that's when Maddie was killed. I'm not quite sure about the connection to the club but it has to do something with their bigoted views, otherwise they wouldn't have brought it up. And obviously they've had problems with members drugging and raping the staff. What's that all about?

That's a good point about the club. Maybe Maddie found out what JD was doing and he had to kill her? I feel like he's the guy who lures and captures the victims and the doctors do the rest. Did phoebe need any organs or anything? I don't remember what she suffered from. Religion has a big part in it, but I don't know how.

Just to recap, we've got 2x murder, a sick sister, drugs, hot sex, racism, zealous Christians, masked men in scrubs, psychedelic wallpaper, 80's electronic popsong, a dubious club, nasty scars. Did I forget something?
JD is a scumbag so yeah I can see that. He's probably just a grunt. Cora trusted him and Maddie pretended to be her friend like she said under hypnosis, so of course she followed them down into the basement. When we saw Cora lying under the bed she had an IV and it also looked like she had a bandage on her head. What could they possibly want from her brain? Stem cells? I think Phoebe is a "blue baby", which means she has heart failure.
