Keď mladá newyorská lekárka Zoe Hartová (Rachel Bilson) príde o štipendium, s ktorým napevno rátala, rozhodne sa viac-menej z núdze prijať ponuku starého vidieckeho lekára Harleyho Wilkesa (Nicholas Pryor), ktorý jej ponúkol miesto lekárky vo svojej praxi v provinčnom alabamskom mestečku Bluebell. Tamojší obyvatelia sú k rozmaznanej veľkomestskej dievčine dosť skeptickí a nedôverčiví, takže je len otázkou času, kedy bude musieť celej obci dokázať, že ako lekárka i človek za niečo stojí!

Aby si ju spoluobčania obľúbili, rozhodne sa Zoe zúčastniť sa každoročného slávnostného sprievodu, a to vo veľkom štýle – na alegorickom voze bluebellského starostu Lavona Hayesa (Cress Williams). No keď si v dobrej nálade sadne za volant a z voza ostane len úbohá kôpka šrotu, všetci sú právom rozrušení a zdesení! Akoby to nestačilo, Zoe musí na základe istého právneho dodatku získať určitý konkrétny počet pacientov, inak jej podiel v praxi prepadne v prospech Dr. Bricka Breelanda (Tim Matheson)! Najprv si však musí nejakým zázrakom získať dôveru miestnych... No a do tretice je Zoein vzťah s Wadeom (Wilson Bethel) od ich, ehm, úletu, dosť napätý!

Je hlboká a poriadne tmavá noc, keď sa Zoe vracia domov autom, keď sa zrazu z ničoho nič na vozovke objaví akýsi muž! Šokovaná okamžite zastaví a vystúpi z auta, no po neznámom niet nikde ani stopy! Keď dorazí do krčmy, je už úplne na konci z nervami – a práve tu zrazu objaví fotografiu onoho nešťastníka! Má to však jeden háčik – ten chlap je vraj už rok mŕtvy! Akoby to nestačilo, Zoe prekvapí nečakanou návštevou jej mama Candice (JoBeth Williams) a požiada ju o rozhovor – a od toho, ako dopadne, bude závisieť, či si k sebe znovu nájdu cestu alebo nie...

Zoe povzbudzuje Rose (McKaley Miller), aby sa zúčastnila bluebellskej súťaže krásy. Jej šance však nie sú najlepšie, pretože najväčšou favoritkou voľby miestnej miss je už od začiatku Lemonina (Jaime King) sestra Magnolia (Claudia Lee). Koučovanie svojich zverenkýň berú obe nepriateľky na život a na smeť neskonale vážne – slovo rivalita tak vďaka nim dostane celkom nový význam! Wade a George sa dosť netradične spolu vyberú nájsť ten najkrajší a najvhodnejší vianočný strom, ktorý má byť ozdobou bluebellsského trhoviska...

Podľa Zoe (Rachel Bilson) je ešte trochu priskoro na to, aby na tancovačke Sweetie Pie Dance oficiálne predstavila Judsona (Wes Brown) ako svojho priateľa. Vlastne má na tento večer úplne iné plány - chce prespať u kamarátky Rose (McKaley Miller), ktorej rodičia ostanú na noc v meste. George (Scott Porter) sa poriadne poseká s Lemon (Jaime King), pretože keď neodpustiteľne prespí dôležitý termín príprav na ich svadbu, nádejnej neveste sa zrúti celý svet! To jej však nijako nebráni v tom, aby organizovala život svojmu otcovi Brickovi (Tim Matheson), ktorého sa po na jej vkus pridlhom smútení rozhodla poslať na rande!

Zoe si je absolútne istá, že sú si s Georgeom súdení, no on sa na ich aférku pozerá predsa len o čosi triezvejšími očami... Medzičasom sa všetci zainteresovaní dozvedia mená párov, ktoré sa pobijú o nemalú sumičku v Bluebellskom súboji, čo mnohých poriadne rozladí - Zoe má totiž bojovať o víťazstvo po Wadeovom boku a George zase bude zase tvoriť tím s Lemon...

Zoe blames herself when one of her friends faces a health crisis and she didn’t notice the symptoms. With much encouragement from Lavon, Wade explores the idea of opening his own bar in Bluebell. Meanwhile, Lemon plans a romantic night for George, hoping to get their relationship back on track. Gary Cole returns as Zoe’s father, Ethan Hart.

Zoe is trying hard to stay away from Wade, but when Rose enlists her help in throwing the first BlueBellapalooza, she is forced to ask Wade to convince his old band mate to be the musical act on short notice. Wade convinces George to start playing the field and agrees to be his wingman, but when Wade stands him up, he decides to follow the seemingly questionable advice solo. Meanwhile, Brick tries to trick Lemon into working for him, but she is determined to keep her waitressing job, that is until one of her customers ends up needing medical attention.

After Zoe treats the high school football team, she learns that Max, who happens to be Rose’s new crush, has become infatuated with Zoe instead.

When Zoe is alerted by the Health Department about a flu epidemic heading towards BlueBell, she is forced to put the town on lockdown. Because of the quarantine, Wade is forced to stay at his ex-girlfriends house causing Zoe to become jealous. Lemon’s plan for the perfect night with Walt goes awry when she begins to feel under the weather. Meanwhile, George finds himself roped into directing Lavon’s tourism commercial about BlueBell’s small-town charm, but it seems Lavon, is more preoccupied with his co-star than his commercial.

Zoe tries to keep her feelings about Wade under control, causing her to become overly protective when it comes to Rose and her boyfriend. Lavon and Wade are forced to work together at the church’s casino fundraiser, but when money goes missing suspicion immediately falls on Wade. Meanwhile, Brick and Shelby’s big decision about their relationship pushes a concerned Lemon to try and sabotage things with the help of George.

Zoe's attempts at online dating hit a few snags until Rose and Max take matters into their own hands and play matchmaker. Faced with yet another set back with the Rammer Jammer, Lemon and Wade are close to throwing in the towel. George tries everything he can think of to prove to Tansy that they belong together, but she still has her doubts. Brick and Shelby decide that they might have acted too rashly, which forces them to make a difficult decision about their future together. Meanwhile, Lavon refuses AnnaBeth's help in stopping the feud with the competing town's Mayor, leaving her to take a different tact.

After spending the summer in New York City, Zoe is ready to make her move more permanent, but first she must return to BlueBell for one last thing. Upon her return Zoe, discovers that no one in town is very happy to see her, except for Lavon. Desperate for Brick to give her a good reference, she agrees to help him track down George and get him to resurrect the Founders Day parade that has been canceled. Needing to find George quickly, Zoe enlists Lemon’s help but accidentally discovers Lemon is hiding a dirty little secret. Meanwhile, Lemon also devises a plan to help Wade save face in front of Zoe.

When Zoe learns that Wade is interested in dating someone close to her, she tries everything she can do to put a stop to it. Lavon enlists George to help save BlueBell from merging with another town. To help keep the town in the dark about the planned merger, Zoe uses Joel and AnnaBeth to create a scandalous distraction to throw people off the trail. Meanwhile, Brick starts dating again, but finds himself in a tough predicament when someone from his past resurfaces.

Joel hires unreliable workers to assist with the renovations; Lavon tries to keep busy by organizing a renaissance fair; Wade is excited about an upcoming anniversary.

Zoe and Joel are frustrated by all the snags they keep running into while trying to remodel their new home. Rose persuades Lavon to agree that BlueBell will be sister cities with a town in France. Lemon convinces George to help her out with a business venture, but in order for things to go smoothly, Wade has to play peacemaker. Meanwhile, Brick sees an opportunity to become BlueBell's Man of the Year, but he soon discovers he has some tough competition.

When Wade's dad asks Zoe for help with his love life, she is happy to get involved, until Wade advises her that no good can come from it. Lavon recruits George to help persuade the city comptroller to change BlueBell's billing on an exit sign, but finds himself in competition against his rival, Mayor Gainey. Meanwhile, Lemon continues to try to raise Fancie's profile, but all her plans seem to go up in flames.

Zoe to tries ignore her problems with Wade and focus on work; Wade asks Lemon for advice about Zoe.

Lavon organizes a talent show; Wade and Zoe wind up in a compromising situation.

Zoe forces Wade to change his ways after seeing him flirting with some women.

As Zoe and Wade try to work out their issues, Zoe makes a life-changing decision and Wade does everything he can to make it happen before their baby is born. Lavon feels guilty about misleading Lemon and is determined to make things right. Meanwhile, George and AnnaBeth are frustrated with their current situation, leaving them with a big decision to be made.
