《黄金保龄球》顾名思义是以保龄球为主题的故事，主角金城武在戏中将展现从未露过的球技。在记者会上金城武表示，他在高中时代真的是个标准保龄球迷，常和一群好友下课后拿着自备球到保龄球馆报到。当时最高纪录还打过二百三十八分，现在虽然有点不稳定，但还是有一百四十分到一百八十分左右的水准。

此剧是名编剧野岛伸司隔了一年的大作，故事是描写一个喜欢打保龄球的上班族，在保龄球馆邂逅一名有夫之妇，两人因而产生若有似无的情愫。金城武表示，去年十月时便拿到第一集剧本，看完第一集时便觉得好象在读漫画一样欲罢不能，并要求希望快点看到续集。虽然他很担心不知道自己能不能表现出剧中那种漫画式的幽默，但是他还是被剧本吸引，接下这个工作。

黑木瞳谈到对金城武的印象时表示，没想到世界上还有这么帅的人，还好自己并不是容易看到帅哥就完蛋的人，否则可能会被他迷倒。对于故事内容她表示，这是一个爱情故事，在剧中男女主角若有似无的恋情以及微妙的关系很让人期待.
