Discuss Jericho

disclaimer : pseudo-random sarcasm ahead

stereotypical casting and characterization

  1. the MC with a supposedly shady past, so please overlook the fact he's both superman and macgyver perfect (surgeon, powder monkey, social assistant, sniper, electromecanician, good-looking, fit, compassionate, pain-insensitive, ...)

  2. the old girlfriend (the blond woman) and the future new one (the teacher) with opposite personalities just here to show how universally cool MC is

  3. the mafia boss, sorry the mayor, obviously MC's father, who can deal tysonesque punches between two life threatening fits of flu (?)

  4. the insider antagonist (bald guy) who decides it's best to launch his political campaign to overthrow mafia boss right after the whole country's been nuked

  5. the modest funny radiationproof farmboy friend, who's gonna marry DC snobish woman

  6. nerdy teen boy and airhead hot girl

  7. the mother of MC and wife of mafia boss who cares a looooot for her family and almost as much for her folks, she's a woman after all and as we all know women may be irrational but make up for it with the love they cater.

  8. the supporting good guy of color with his family of color. Beware MC that you don't get your superhero privileges stolen, Morgan looks like a tough guy.

  9. all the other even more unsubstantial sheepish citizens of the town

unoriginal tropes

  1. the lady-and-the-tramp teen romance

  2. the sex triangle between super hero brother and the wife and the bar tender ("but you told me she doesn't understand you")

  3. this scene when MC's driving his pickup fullspeed with his gun to go to the rescue of poor deaf girl and blond princess, well who doesn't need their car/gun/b..ch fix ?

  4. the emotional history-changing speech while neighbours are busy looting and fighting each other

  5. the underlying meta subplot. My bet : Mr. President had it all planned and he's going to take refuge into town with the help of Morgan.

clumsy script and details

  1. the MC (and if not him, his brother) who saves half the town before taking shelter when the fallout rain comes to town

  2. the cops from the town mistaking a school bus for a prison bus ; kids these days...

  3. the escaped prisoners not realizing their acting police officers has been busted right away, and why do they even disguise as such while stilll in the county ?

  4. MC's brilliant idea to blow up the mine entrance (doesn't care, he's not inside, nor is his family)

  5. the MC's leg that seems to have magically healed, who remains clean-shaven.

And I've only watched 3 episodes...

Since the Walking Dead went down the drain (ages ago imho), I was looking for a good post-apocalytical drama, that reallistically brings its characters to deal with hard choices. Definitely not this joke of a show.
