This nonsense has gotten out of hand. I see this on all sorts of morning shows and anything that suggests how to save money.

This is TOTAL BS. All appliances do not use power all of the time. How can anyone believe this stuff?

The appliances that use power all the time are: ones with a CLOCK, with a remote control (because the device powers the receiver circuit all the time), and devices with a touchpad or momentary buttons (such as a button you press once to turn on and then again to turn off but they don't click and lock in a new position). Having said that, standard washers and dryers with a manual timer and real knobs do not use power when they aren't running. Ones with electronics, touchpads, fancy scheduled cycles, etc. will use a very slight amount of power to keep the control pad working -- and they may have a transformer to drop down the voltage and a fancy one might convert the AC to DC -- so those will use SOME power, but it is a very tiny amount; televisions due to the remote circuit.

But lamps, regular toasters, etc. If you have a LCD display with a clock, then it does. Even so, just turning off your unused lights and sealing your windows and doors better are going to save you noticeable amounts on your electric bill while unplugging tiny appliances that don't use any when not being used won't reduce the bill.

Also, every area has a minimum charge to keep power supplied to your house. Some places it is about $25 and I've heard of some areas that are even more. So, even if you killed all of your electricity for the entire month, you'd still get a bill.

People need to start using their brains... it is too bad that so many people are born without common sense or the ability to use logic.
