Yes it looks like that's possible, but in the end who cares, when a good to great Movie or even Tv Show comes in, it sets the stage for others to follow in some form in it's footsteps, so a Great Movie copied as you suggest into a a very good Tv show is logical, they surely would never had been able to get Newman & Redford to do it, the 1st season I watched it as a teenage with my Dad who grew on the old Westerns and he loved this show and I did also, as it began the 2nd season it was still good, but both of us thought as it went on it was missing something from the 1st one, good but not quite as good, then when we heard the news of Pete Duel killing himself, I really took it hard as it was one of my favorite shows. And so did my Dad, and neither of us like the replacement for Pete the voice of the show, I think we did finish that season and the next, but it was a struggle to do so without the original star who was excellent in his part, and we barely made it through the last season, we were glad it almost cut in half in the number of episodes. Your comment is informational for people to have your point of view so they can compare and look at that themselves, but again the long run who cares, if 1 good thing can't spawn another and have it held against them, then that's taking something away before it gets started.

I prefer to think of it as an homage.

Yes you could, good, great sometimes even bad Movies and shows spawn new ones, I look at the comment they copied it as a good thing, it was a good show until Pete's death, they ruined it after that and they started filming way too soon.
