The short version is, no European country is making enough new people of their own, to keep a stable population. So immigration is required. Actually massive immigration, when you get down to it. The problem there is that you are - you can say THEY are, but it's the same thing really - bringing in immigrants who don't really want to be European. But there's really no alternative, even though it makes a bad situation worse over time. The Netherlands has the same kind of problem, but they get more muslims from the middle east rather than africa.

Well the point of demographic collapse is that ultimately it isn't even up to you. All they have to do is wait for all of you to disappear, and then just take over. Some of them are a little impatient. Maybe the Tunisians will be fighting Somalians or Turks or something, over the land, but they won't be fighting the Italians or the Spaniards etc, because they'll be gone. That's what happens when people don't have enough children to replace themselves, for generations.

From what I find online, the population of Italy is about 55 million actual Italians, not counting immigrants from Africa and elsewhere.

Now, just assuming that the population is distributed evenly by age (which is certainly untrue, as the lower fertility rate means a population already skewed older...) that could put about 10 million people in optimum child-bearing years.

Of those, assuming half are women...

If those 5 million women have the now-expected norm of 1.1 children each, that's 5.5 million children.

So that raises the total population to 60.5 million.

But in the roughly 20 years of that "generation," the latest numbers I find show that about 13 million people will die. So the total population actually DECLINES by 7.5 million.

If the figures were just flat, that would mean Italy gets to zero Italians in about 7 generations.

But it's actually worse, because each future generation has fewer women of child-bearing age... While MORE people die of old age...

See, when those 5.5 million children get to their child-bearing years, there will only be 2.75 million women, versus the 5 million women who bore children previously...

And if those 2.75 million women have only a little over 3 million children, of whom only 1.5 million are female...

See how quickly it goes?

And of course, long before there are ZERO Italians, there wouldn't be enough left to outvote the Tunisians etc.

Did 60 million include the immigrants? I saw the 60 million figure too but that was including immigrants. I left off the immigrants - all of them, not just recent ones - to get 55 million because a) I'm talking about the decline of Italian population, not the immigrants too; and b) the immigrants usually have a lot more than 1.1 children per woman. (Which is why they can just keep increasing their population, while yours declines, and then, "presto change-o," they take over. Probably long before the Italian population disappears completely.)

But even if you have 60 million "real" Italians now, that doesn't really change things. The key figure is 1.1 children per woman. Anything less than about 2.2 (allowing for premature deaths, etc) means a shrinking population. Because - on average - each woman has to replace herself, AND A MAN. Just to keep the total population STEADY.

Meanwhile, unless you can figure out how to remove the "soil" of Italy from the globe, when the Italian people are gone, it will still be there, just filled with Tunisians and whoever else, instead of Italians.

The Steyn interview mentions that aspect too.

First off NO country excepts /tolerates illegal immigration ..there are official steps to take if someone wants to migrate

Secondly, these illegals are coming to our country so they should be prepared to embrace our laws etc ..

furthermore, co/existing is a process that has to come from both sides ..

if the hosting country sees goodwill on their part, it will automatically be open to cultural exchange.. which will bring enrichment to all.

As I have already stated I have nothing against immigration.....Italians have migrated over the globe for decades embracing, respecting the laws of their new homes , contributing with their culture and hard work to everyone’s benefit.

What I don’t accept are people ( black white, red or other) coming to Italy with no intentions to blend in, show respect for our laws .. or want to have an honest job and work.

Authorities instead have to deal with people that refuse to be tested for covid, people who in quarantine escape knowing they will spread the virus, people that think everything is due to them but in return have no obligations to the country that is supporting them..

they refuse to wear masks, practice social distancing or respect curfew.. they tell us we can’t have a cross in our classrooms ..

If you have no problems with such unruly people than you are better than me..and I may add, even better than your President who clearly doesn’t want people like that.

I guess you consider the Tunisian that was caught in broad daylight roasting a cat on the outskirts of a town an example of that cultural exchange you mentioned in your post...

..or once again two days ago a Tunisian was caught on public transport without a ticket or any ID on him...nevertheless he started to verbally attack the conductor calling him “ una merda” a piece of $hit and that ( in this case ) the train was $hit too ... nice example of co/existing , hey mecha ?

And to finish off, there is no work in Italy .. due to covid and lockdown this winter/spring 40 % of our small businesses ( bars, restaurants, clothes shops, hairdressers etc) have shut down FOREVER .. and another 40% won’t survive before the so call recovery funds arrive earliest next June/July 2021.. yet to maintain these illegals that don’t work we are billed a sum on our regular bills.

I don't think that makes him/her/it better. Just more foolish really. Short-sighted. Self-destructive...

I find it amusing, but sad, that some people seem okay with "welcoming" "immigrants" who MIGHT - if he/she/it was lucky - be willing to cross the street to piss on him/her/it.

That's even worse than people like Mexicans who somehow think Mexico is so great that they have to come HERE to actually get anywhere in life.

I haven't gone forward since Neroon died (S4 E14).. I watched that episode on the 18th ... I was upset he died ..he was a great character ..I loved his arc ..

I decided to put B5 aside until Christmas week 25th Dec. onwards ...that should keep me busy until after New Year's Eve...
