Cet épisode fût le premier épisode pilote de la série mais ne fût jamais diffusé. Les dirigeant de la chaîne trouvaient qu'il fallait poser davantage de conflits et supprimèrent cette version.

Contrairement au deuxième pilote "The Reluctant Stowaway" ci-dessous, celui-ci n'intègre ni le robot, ni l'espion, le Docteur Smith. Le vaisseau spatial s'appelait Gemini 12 mais pour ne pas confondre avec le programme Gemini de la NASA, l'appareil fût renommé Jupiter 2. Plusieurs morceaux de ce pilote seront utilisés ultérieurement pour d'autres épisodes. Le titre original de la série devait être "Space Familly Robinson" (la famille Robinson dans l'espace), mais les Productions Walt Disney menacèrent d'intenter un procès à cause de sa similitude avec leur titre "Swiss Familly Robinson" (Les Robinson Suisses).
