Popo y su familia viven en harmonía en un mundo rodeado de bosque y de insectos hasta que su padre desaparece, dejándole un misterioso collar con poderes mágicos. Cuando su madre y el bosque son atacados por el malvado Passer, Popo decide ir en busca de su padre. Cuando unos villanos se cruzan en su camino con escarabajos gigantes listos para atacarle, aparece Mushiking, el escarabajo más fuerte del planeta.
