I bet she thought she was untouchable.

I feel bad for her costars. They did nothing wrong.

Maybe try bring it back without her.

Agree. In fact, several of them had already spoken out, gone on record, or otherwise denounced Roseanne's sentiments, before the network made its own stand - and kudos to the network for taking action quickly. Given the solid ratings, their statemrnt should be taken at face value - there's no confusion that the show might have been canned due to poor ratings.

I wish the "good cops" would show that kind of integrity and send a clear message, rather than, by their silence, show complicity with bad cops.

I can't see that working. The show is called Roseanne - I'd imagine it's gotta have Roseanne in it.

She said something similar before and got away with it.

Outside of the Ku Klux Klan, I do not know how someone thought they could get away with comparing a black person with an ape.

As for the co-stars. They know who to blame.

Today's climate is rather less willing to wink at bad behaviour than it was in the past. Look at the number of people who are now paying the price for actions from decades ago (Spacey, Rose, Lauer, Cosby, Weinstein...)

Interesting. Two thoughts quickly jumped into my mind

  1. It is a problem to presume that "racism" is the exclusive domain of the KKK. There are too many people who comfort themselves, and any who will hear them, in saying "I'm not a KKK member, I don't wear a hood and burn crosses". They think that, because they are not the visible, proactive, hooded monsters that terrorized people with murder, violence, destruction of property and other acts of intimidation, well, they can't be considered "racist". But they certainly can be.

  2. This new climate is driving apart the middle ground, and people are becoming more vocal on both extremes of the spectrum. Whereas we are seeing people speak out against sexism, sexual assault, sexual harassment, racism, etc; we are also seeing a rising tide of hate masquerading as free speech, nationalism, white pride, etc. - and by masquerading, I mean, all those ideas I mentioned, individually and of themselves, are not inherently bad; but, at those times and situations when hate is fueling words or actions, but then is attempted to be covered by any of those things, we have like-minded people feeling empowered by hearing others saying it out loud, so that Roseanne could very well think she could get away with it. Trump has said all kinds of things during his campaign and since entering the White House that leave people across both sides of the floor, floored. But his base of support remains stable. Go figure.

Indeed.

well other stars have left their shows Valerie Harper left over contract dispute that became the Hogan's. The parents left good times the show carried on it has happened on tv shows before. Give it a chance you never know.

I'm not sure any of those shows had the main star's name in the title.

Hey, I would have liked to see House of Cards recast another actor to play Frank Underwood, but a lot of people said it'd never work, that it will go forward witbout him but, again, the show isn't named after him or his character.

At any rate, we'll never know what might have been with any other scenario than what the producers decided.

Valerie Harper's show was called Valerie then Valerie's family then changed to the Hogans. I'm just saying it might work without her. Never know unless given a chance give it 5 episodes the Conners.

I would have supported that, and I don't even watch the show. It'd have been nice for the actors to keep their jobs. But, how would you write her out? That'd be really tough for the actors to work around.

I certainly am aware that you do not have subscribe to extreme tight ideology to be racist. However the more respectable people keep their views behind closed doors, use innuendo in public, hint rather than outright state their views.

Barr now claims she was joking. A common theme with the alt-right. Say racist/sexist/homophobic things and later argue they were only joking with the liberals having no sense of humour and are easily offended. It is almost arguing that you were 'only joking' is some kind of 'get out of jail free card.'

Barr will claim next that it was her medication which made her say these things. In that case she should not had been on Twitter in the first place nor claim she is bringing back her show that will speak for a marginalised constituency when you are up to your neck in meds.

Interestingly not only have ABC dropped the show. Disney have backed the network publically. Her co-stars have distanced themselves from her. Now her agents have sacked her as well.

They can say she had off screen death like they did on other tv shows.

They could...but that would be depressing. There was already something very depressing about it as it was. It was like they were trying to recapture something that had gone away a long, long time ago. Granted there were good moments in this reincarnation but still something just didn't feel right.
