I don't consider Alan as a real nice guy. He is a leech and a scammer who pretends to be nice to get what he wants. He has been doing it for so long that it comes naturally. Because this is a sitcom he seldom succeeds and most of his schemes will blow up in his face, so the viewers can laugh at his incompetence. In the end he gets the last laugh. He marries Lyndsey, has Walden at his beck and call, and Charlie is crushed by a falling piano.

I don't think its wrong to hate Alan but he definitely shows the contrast/opposite of Charlies character being a preppy dad who went to college and became a chiropractor and tries not to be a womanizer like Charlie despite having his moments as well.

All the things you pointed out are true. Its actually quite common for family and relatives to mooch and live rent free for years or even life. Alan is a chiropractor but has to give his ex wife like $4,000 a month in alimony. So lets just assume Alan makes $7,000 a month he only has 3G's to survive on. If he makes only like 5G's a month then its only 1G a month to survive. Cost of living in LA is ridiculous so a few G's a month does not last long here. Car payments, car insurance(the law here), gas, groceries, food, cell phone, cable, and that few G's is gone already. Plus you have to factor in cost of living, Entertainment, etc is all more expensive here anyway.

Alan is a total moocher and tries to be the good guy or at least portray himself like that but I think Charlie does rub off on him as the show goes on. Kandie was one of the hottest girls on the show maybe the hottest? Sweet rack!, Pretty face and dumb as hell lol. It seemed out of character that she would leave Alan soon as he won the jackpot for she wasn't like that at all up until that episode.

Also TECHNICALLY Alan is also arrested THREE TIMES for SEXUALLY indecent behavior in public! He got arrested twice for being naked running away from the cops twice with his former receptionist, and then he got arrested a third time for another sexual indecent public behavior in the episode where Charlie blows him off with the dermatologist in bed. So that 3 times sex offender arrests alone putting him on some serious sex offender list! Not sure if he'd be able to keep his chiropractor business open after 3 times sex offender arrests right?

In addition to Alan being a 3 time sex offender(3 arrests for sex offender reasons) he also literally did a Ponzi scheme stealing about 100K from his closest family and friends! His closest family and friends all believed in him to invest in him, or just wanted to help him out and what does he do? He buys Gucci, Rolex, suits, and blows all that money on very unnecessary personal BS! So yeah add that to the Is It Wrong To Hate Alan list!!!!
