Discuss Star Trek

I happened to pick up an issue of People magazine from earlier this year (March), and noticed a 2/3rds or 3/4-page story about the passing of Sally Kellerman.

There were several lines about her being in the original MASH movie, and even some about "Back To School" with Rodney Dangerfield.

I think it's entirely possble, maybe even very likely, that she was seen by a lot more people - and more times! - both in the US and worldwide, in the second Star Trek pilot/episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before," than in the MASH movie.

But Star Trek wasn't mentioned at all.

Heck, maybe she wouldn't have even been in MASH movie if not for being seen in Star Trek a few years earlier.

What a cheat!

Video reversed, but watchable:

She was unforgettable as Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan. If she had her powers then, those who pranked her would have been reduced to nothingness.

Yes I enjoyed the movie too, although the movie kinda makes the series impossible because Hawkeye arrives at the start of the movie and leaves at the end, and Henry doesn't die, etc etc.

The series MASH was one of those shows that made an 11-year series covering a 2-year war.

The book that inspired the movie was obviously based on a true story.

In college, a friend and I were trying to determine which character was the writer. I was thinking it was Hawkeye because he was portrayed in a positive Gary Stu manner. My friend (who actually went on to be a semi-successful writer) said it was probably Bandini. Bandini didn't say much. He just sat back and watched the goings on. He was basing this on the movie. I was more familiar with the book.

I did not read any of the sequels. That would likely shine more light on this mystery.

I don't see how that could work, since I don't remember Bandini being in the book.

Doesn't it seem inevitable that the writer was Hawkeye? Author H. Richard Hornberger actually named his tent in Korea "The Swamp" as Hawkeye did. And Hornberger was the comedian, etc.

I had no idea Sally Kellerman died! I always liked her. She was beautiful, and had such a sexy voice. Besides her work on the second Star Trek TOS pilot, Ms. Kellerman appeared in an episode of Classic The Outer Limits called The Human Factor with Gary Merrill and Harry Guardino. She also had a small role in a season 1 episode of Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. Rest In Peace, Ms. Kellerman.

You should see Back To School, if you haven't already. Sometimes it's Free ("with ads") on YouTube. (At least for US people...)
