At jumptheshark.com (archives of that website now at archive.org) a poster wrongly called the ST:TOS ep 'Time and time again' (or something very close to that--haven't seen the webpage in a while). God, where did they get that title? Other posters at JTS commented about the mistaken title.

Somebody once made long-winded postulation on how Kirk and Spock could have survived in the 1930's. Some one else replied something like "God, you sure gave a lot of thought to how they could have survived". LOL!

Wasn't "City On The Edge of Forever" the name given by Harlan Ellison? That would be my assumption anyway. Especially since it sounds so much like Ellison.

It was the name of the Ellison story

Yes. But Ellison wrote an original script that has a guest crewman-character doing drugs stuff that never appeared in the finished and Harry Mudd was drug smuggling in Mudd' s Women. Besides, actually the originally intended name of the COTEOF ep is incidental. The point is where did the JTS poster get that really weird title for it.

I'm aware of that, but "City..." doesn't seem like a good title for Ellison's original story either.
"Kirk Loses His One True Love, Again" would have made more sense.

You may not think City On the Edge of Forever is adapt but the title you suggest ( sorry knix, I'm going to be blunt here) simply sucks.
It sounds worse than a B film title and furthermore, it gives away the plot.
I'm sure members of this board can come up with a worthy alternative to City On the Edge of Forever, which I think is awesome (let's leave the Ellison issue out ).

Well for one thing, it's not Forever, it's only the past. The Guardian didn't go into the future.
And what did a/any City have to do with it?

The time portal is : The Guardian of Forever...The episode The City on The Edge of Forever
I thought FOREVER alluded to the fact that the past was accessible FOREVER thanks to the Guardian/the portal.
The word City could be referring to two things.
a. to the city/place where the Guardian was/is installed.
b. it's refer to New York where Spock, Kirk and Bones jumped to.
You didn't comment on the first part of my post so I deduct that you agree with me when I wrote : " sorry, but your title sucks and it sounds worse than a B film title and furthermore, it gives away the plot."
At least we agree on something then.

The Harry Mudd drug smuggling bit means that Beckwith's smuggling drug bit in the script originally meant for this ep should not have been too taboo.
One time on 'Welcome Back Kotter' they mentioned Josef Stalin as a a man who sent millions to prison. No mention of his brutal millions of mass-murder ( see my postings). Why did they not mention being a big killer? They had Barbarino quote the famous last words of Jack the Ripper( I never met a person I didn't want to kill"). ( Not really in real life the Ripper's last words!)

In that sense it was like calling the first TOS movie "Where Nomad Has Gone Before" it's kind of the point.

Nobody even knows who Jack the Ripper really was.
