Well, since I can't sign up for CBS All Access until Feb. 1, I've only been able to see bits and pieces of the first episode of Star Trek Discovery, "Brother", via YouTube clips.
My impressions: Anson Mount is hot. Not as hot as Jeffrey Hunter or Bruce Greenwood, but hot. Although Spock hasn't shown up yet, it's weird to see a young Spock with a beard. Ethan Peck reminds me a lot of his Grandfather Gregory Peck (and if you don't know who Gregory Peck is, shame on you). Action scenes looked good.
That's all I can offer right now. If you're reading this and thinking, "Maria, why aren't you posting this on the Discovery board?" My answer: I think that the Discovery board is the nastiest, meanest, TMDb board and I will have nothing to do with it. Live Long and Prosper.

Not yet Maria did manage to watch season 1 on Netflix and recently saw that season two had begun so I might check it out although my initial opinions were proven to be true.Like I said if this were a SF series on it's own it would be pretty decent apart from the main character but I fail to see the deeper connections with the Trek franchise as a whole despite it trying artificially bring in familiar characters and concepts as fan service.

I still have to wait until the 23rd of February .. I'm dogsitting Moby for a week again so I will be able to see NETFLIX ..nearly the whole 2nd season should be by then availableπ π π
Of course , I'm looking forward to spoiling Moby too : they keep him on such a poor regime .. Dry food π he loves sharing the ham , cheese and chicken with me and licking out the yogurt pot.π
Can anyone tell me if Ash Tyler will be back ?

Ash Tyler (f.k.a. Voq) will be back in S2E3 "ST Discovery: Point of Light".

One of the reasons that I'm probably going to sign up for CBS All Access is Michelle Yeoh. I've always liked her and I think that's she's the best thing about Discovery.

Nice to see you are feeling better and posting ,MARIA! Michelle Yeoh was an actress I had never seen before ; I thought she was very convincing , nevertheless I would have preferred the writers had "saved" villain Lorca instead ..he was , for me , the best thing in ST:Discovery ( followed by Tyler).
I find Michael irritating ..

@ wonder2wonder
That's good news .. A bit disappointed I have to wait until episode 8 though ...but I guess it 's better than not at all like Lorca.

Well, guys, I just watched "Brother" (I thought I would have to wait until February 1st to sign up for CBS All Access, but I was able to get the $9.99 a month with the first week free) deal.
It was pretty good. I enjoyed it. Anson Mount did a decent job as Pike. Mount was terrific in Hell On Wheels but horrible in Inhumans (disclosure: I'm writing this in the hospital, stoned on morphine).
Soneuqa Martin-Green was okay. It's hard for me to like her character. She reminds me of Barbara Bain when Bain was in Space: 1999 : walking around looking like she's been taking Xanax 24/7. Burnham looks like she has Major Depressive Disorder. I keep wanting to tell her to go get some Zoloft.

You took the words right out of my mouth Maria but we could try Prozac first makes her feel wonderfully bland ,and it won't affect her acting because that is bland to begin with me thinks Burnham is bi-polar.But Netflix in Europe broadcasts Discovery as well thought over here the fist episode of season 2 just premiered so I guess we are probably behind CBS all access.

I'm out of the hospital, resting at home. As far as I know, the surgery went well.

Have seen episodes 1&2,I think the addition of Pike is a much needed breath of fresh air I actually like his character hope he stays.

Episode three was a bit of bore too much time was spend on the Ash (Voq) and Klingon stuff (who now for some reason start to grow hair again)plus there was some big reveal there that in the end amounted to very little. And Burham is getting on my nerves again with here looking like she could breakdown and cry at any moment or go into a tantrum my suggestion to the producers is get rid of Michael Burnham and focus on Pike he is a far more entertaining character.
