Would have been better if he'd begged them to kill off Indiana Jones. Then we wouldn't have to keep suffering through awful "sequels."
I totally agree. I have seen only the first two...I already refused to see the third in 2008, and unfortunately, I saw the trailer for the last one and I cringed. It kind of ruined my teen memories.
As for Star Wars, the role of Han Solo put Harrison Ford on the map, I was pissed off when I read he wanted the production to kill his character off.. can't stand actors that are ungrateful like that. I would have preferred he hadn't come back in 2019.

Movie 3 is okay, he's not too old yet. Forget anything after that.

I like Harrison Ford as an action hero, but the way he treated his first wife Mary Marquardt and their two sons after he became famous as Han Solo is another story.
"Harrison and Mary met at college and married in 1964. Their first son, Benjamin, was born in 1966 and their second one, Willard, in 1969. They were broke, but that didn't matter as long as they had each other and their children. From 1964 to 1973 he worked as a carpenter to support his family. He wanted to become a famous actor and Mary was standing by her man, helping with the chores and working every day as a chef so that he could pursue his dream. She didn't complain and was there - after every rejection - to catch him when he fell and cheered - yes, Mary was one of the most popular cheerleaders on the campus where they met - him on towards the next acting opportunity. She believed in him, even when he didn't himself."
"Then, in 1973, Harrison got his first break when he played drag racer Bob Falfa in 'American Graffiti', a movie directed by George Lucas, who would later in 1977 choose him to star as Han Solo in the Star Wars trilogy."
"Harrison's star rose and he forgot his wife Mary who had sacrificed so much for him. They grew distant and he cheated on her, but she still loved him. When she caught him in bed with yet another woman - it was rumoured that she was none other than his co-star Carrie Fisher - it was the last straw. They divorced in 1979 and he moved on with his life."
"And so this love story ends. Mary was there for him when he had nothing, but he left her when he had everything."
Yes, but, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - the third movie - came out 34 years ago.
You missed my point...I'm older too .. watching the 2023 trailer I noticed that it was filmed in the same style as the first film way back in 1981... childish, with stacks of unrealistic sequences.
When I was a teen I didn't notice that ..I loved the film and I fell head over heels for Indy .. I want to preserve that happy memory. Re-watching it today, 4 decades later would ruin that memory.
Have you never re-watched a film 20/30 years later and wondered how you could have thought/considered it awesome?
If I'm 'reading' this Thread correctly, (so far) we sussed out the following:
(1) Actors can get tired of a role.
(2) Fans can get tired of seeing an actor in a role.
(3) Neither (1) nor (2) above apply to William Shatner as Captain Kirk.
William Shatner was never a mega film star and he seemed happy to resume the role of Kirk in between other films and series projects for the TV.
Personally, I got a shock when, in 1982, I saw William Shatner in Star Trek, the Motion Picture. . I had seen the series on tv and one film where he costarred: The Brother Karamazov 1958.
In Star Trek. the Motion Picture, he was less dashing but what really made me cringe was the permed hair and the extra weight.

Sure, but I watched Last Crusade again recently and it was fine. "Crystal Skull" was awful from the start.

"Harrison Ford spent years asking for Han Solo to be killed off in Star Wars." (Buzzfeed - 2021)
Now; that's how you know when an actor has had ENOUGH!
Even if they CAN'T “shake a character” they never stop bellyaching about wanting to do so.

Ciao wonder2wonder 😊
I never followed his private life ........... how he treated his wife, just shows what a louse of a human being he was.
When Fisher died, I read that she was quite wild in her heydays.
I liked him in Frisco Kid (laughed my head off), Witness, Blade Runner (Rutger Hauer RIP I still cry hearing the closing monologue), Regarding Henry.
I didn't like him in the Sabrina remake.. the original is far better with William Holden, Audrey Hepburn, and Bogart.

When I watched the 2023 trailer , not only was Harrison old but the sequences seemed childish to me. Do you get what I mean??

No one forced him to come back.
He came back for the money but part of the deal was also that Han Solo would be killed.
