The previous shorts were listed as five separate shorts on the Disney+ website for almost a year before they were merged into a TV listing sometime in late July / early August.

Since the second season will be the first the season that will actually air as part of a TV show, the TV entry on TMDB should start from the second season.

It seems quite confusing for TMDB to have different information than Disney+. Other sites such as IMDb and TVDB have kept the shorts as season 1 and show the upcoming episodes as being part of season 2.

Can we be consistent with how Disney+ is presenting the series? That would make a lot more sense to most people, especially those that are unaware of the history here. Yes, the previous ones were originally released as 5 short movies, but now they're presented as season 1 everywhere but here.

As per our rules, all our data are based on the original release.

Ah thanks for the clarification! The approach we're taking here makes sense in that context. Not sure how to close this thread again 😅

Add me to the list of people coming here with the same confusion. I was all set to create the season 1 entries, but decided to check the discussions first. As much as I understand the reasoning behind the "original release rule" (which I couldn't find, BTW, but I'm sure it's around here somewhere) in many/most cases, isn't the point of a living database so that it's able to change when new information becomes available? In this case, it's a pretty significant change, directly from the production studio. Originally, they planned I Am Groot to be stand-alone movies because they had no intentions of continuing the saga. Now that they have, this rule has left the database in an almost ridiculous state (honestly, no offense intended by that), where a show is premiering season two, but TMDB will show that no season one even exists. That just doesn't make sense on any level (except, solely to maintain that rule) and will only cause additional confusion (and many more of these threads) once season 2 releases next month.

Hello, add me too to this list. I am very confused and I found other confusing things : The Matrix (1999) directors and writers have changed their names but are referenced with their new ones. Should we consider them as different people (and have different entries in the DB) or should we consider that things can change (and update the DB) ? I think it is a real debate to have.

As we like to say in Germany „Ausnahmen bestätigen die Regel./Exceptions prove the rule.“

This should be one of those.

I'm totally with you.

@superboy97 I completely understand your perspective.

Although it began as a collection of five brief films, it's noteworthy that every online platform, including Disney, now categorizes it as a full-fledged series. Given that the second season is set for release in September, it seems appropriate to consider it solely as a television show here as well.

As per our rules, we always list things as they were originally released.

Its the same problem as miniseries have, so look at your FAQ and update your rules, this is a stupid rule! Also, where do i find this rule? I could not find it....

Your FAQ: TV & FILM

This is a miniseries, it shouldn't be in the movie section!

You are right! Most miniseries are no longer allowed in the movie section. While hundreds of miniseries duplicates have already been merged and deleted in 2018, we need your help finding the misplaced entries we missed. You can help speed up the process by making sure the miniseries has a TV entry with good data and by sharing your sources. The most important fields to verify are the episodes and air dates, the country of origin and network, and the TV show type (miniseries) and status (ended). Any future miniseries incorrectly added to the movie section will be deleted upon being found or reported.

This FAQ question has nothing to do with this case. It concern items that were directly released as miniseries and were previously allowed to be listed in the movies part.

In the case of Groot, they were originally released as movies, not as a series. Furthermore, this is not a miniseries.

The only response we seem to keep getting is the "original release" rule regurgitated to us. The same thing happened to The Nevers over here across 14 different discussion/problem threads, spanning the course of 7 months, dating back to February, with 126 responses from a number of community members. Sorry, I didn't feel like counting precisely how many unique members participated in those 14 threads.

During one of those discussions, out of frustration from the "original release" repetition, one member asked who else they could appeal to, in order to get an exception made. You suggested they use the General forum because the admin was more likely to read that, and you even suggested a thread. The community's users jumped onto that thread and requested assistance, but nothing ever came of it. No admin could even bothered to chimed in; just one other mod replied, regurgitating the same rule. Eventually, the community let the thread die, just like the other 14, because it was clear they were talking to a wall.

TMDB was thought to be a departure from the way the TVDB was being run, but it appears the old adage rings true once again:

> Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I guess this section of TMDB's About page is no longer valid:

> Between our staff and community moderators, we're always here to help. We're passionate about making sure your experience on TMDB is nothing short of amazing.

Well, unless amazing has also gone the way of literally in the current lexicon, in that it now has both its original meaning, as well as the exact opposite definition, thereby making the word utterly meaningless in practice... just like that part of the TMDB's About section.

Make no sense to have a season 2 without a season 1. Make the 5 short movies season 1 or all future a short movie. I understand the rule, but it should be review. Sometimes a movie change from no movie set to a movie set, change happen. For me its better if the 5 short movie change for tv series (otherwise I will make custom nfo).

Could you at least change the number of the season to 2 and not just the name, so apps using the API can display the episodes as 2x01 etc?

If we do this, the series will appear without dates, as the date is determined by the date of the 1st episode of the 1st season. So, this will be worst.
