I’ve rewatched this show over and over and started thinking about what we knew about the characters in Season 1 and by the end of the series.

To me, I feel like only Laura’s character got some development. She certainly became more assertive towards the end, with one of the best examples being her meeting with Alan Brady in “Coast to Coast Big Mouth.” I enjoyed watching her become less of a silly/jealous housewife and more of a balance to Rob’s goofiness.

Other than Laura, I feel like most of the other characters didn’t change much— although Alan Brady did become more demanding and egotistical towards the last season. Buddy and Sally hardly changed at all, granted we had very few opportunities to examine their personal lives. Herman “Warm Skim Milk” Glimscher became more assertive towards the end, but was still attached to his mother. Mel Cooley still took Buddy’s insults without fighting back.
