Бренда находит у себя дома дневник некой Уэнди Эдвардс - девушки, жившей в доме Уолшей много дет назад. Читая дневник, Бренда переносится в атмосферу 60-х годов, когда было море хиппи, беззаботных деньков и, произошло убийство Кеннеди, потрясшее всю Америку. Durante la pausa di primavera, tutto il gruppo va a Palm Springs, tranne Brenda che ha appena trovato nella sua camera un diario del 1968 di una ragazza di nome Wendy Edwards e si appassiona alla lettura. Leggendo il diario, immagina i suoi amici come personaggi della storia.

Caught in a funk, Brenda pretends that she is grounded and backs out of a ski trip with her friends. She finds a diary in her room that belonged to a previous resident. Brenda becomes fascinated by the girl's accounts of the political struggles and her own personal crises in the years 1968 and '69. She imagines herself, her family and her friends as the individuals described in the diary.

Toda la pandilla excepto Brenda y Andrea han decidido irse a lejos. Brandon le recrimina a Brenda el no querer ir con ellos. Esta encuentra sorpresivamente el diario de la anterior inquilina de la casa y comienza a leerlo fascinada. Pronto se ve imaginando lo que fue la vida de una joven a finales de los sesenta y pronto identifica a cada uno de los personajes relatados en dicho diario con sus propios amigos y ella misma como la protagonista. En el diario se refleja como fueron esos tiempos, tanto políticamente como personalmente, y el hecho de que quien lo escribe estaba enamorada sin ser correspondida. Brenda investiga y consigue encontrar a la propietaria del mismo, con la que entabla una breve amistad y recibe varios buenos consejos. De vuelta a casa todos sus amigos la esperan.
