Discuss Battlestar Galactica

I was in Hiroshima 20 years ago. There was no radiation danger from the atomic blast that had occurred 55 years earlier. For the site of the Chernobyl accident, some estimates say it will be 20,000 years before it is safe again, but nobody claims that Chernobyl made the entire planet uninhabitable. The part of the Galactica story which asserts that the entire planet is useless seems unlikely.

The producers might have thought 2000 years and that the entire planet was uninhabitable was probably because they wanted to drive home the the ironic situation the colonials had. For years the fleet had come from a long way and went through so much heartache and pain thinking that Earth was going to save them, that they would be happy and safe there. And what happens? When they finally got there, there was no where that they could settle on. All of their dreams had been shattered.

I think the race(proto Cylons) that spawned the Original 5 used something far more powerful than our petty fission or fusion bombs.Sure there was Irony in finding Earth in the state it was but it also is direct proof of the series mantra of "All of this has happened before and will happen again".
