Discuss Star Trek: Voyager

Over the past couple of years I've been watching all the Star Trek shows. After Voyager it's back to TOS.

But Voyager: It isn't as bad as I remembered. The first season was strong compared to DS9 and TNG. I'm almost done with S2 and you can see the issues. Neelix is so annoying, but I think he's OK as the cook. I just don't like that they use him as the expert for all alien races encountered. And Kes I think could have been the heart and soul of the show but they just didn't know what to do with her. She's pretty much Nurse Chapel with less lines in S2. I wish somehow she was the alien race advisor instead of the cook. Torres and Chakotay could have been great characters but they don't seem to have too much to do -- their romance would be cool (I don't know if this happens.) Chakotay and the crewmember that turns out a traitor was pretty decent. Janeway is amazing. The doctor is just as great. The vulcan is played well but has nothing interesting to do. The conflict between the Marque and Federation is interesting but having them all wear Starfleet uniforms makes it hard to tell who's from what team. Ship conflicts and survival lost in space was done better in the Battlestar reboot -- it never really feels like they're just hanging on.

I know some big changes are coming but so far a satisfying Star Trek show. I think the main beef is the cast doesn't connect as friends like other ST series.

The video quality on Paramount + is SD and some of the transfers are just plain bad. Considering ST is a tent pole for their service they'd at least get better transfers of the shows. Not looking for a whole upgrade but at least make it better than VHS quality -- which it looks like at times.

OK. Watching a Voyager episode right now with The Rock and Star-Trek-permanent-guest-star Jeffrey Combs. Heat up the popcorn!

** SPOILERS **

Dwayne should have been the second opponent, not the first, that would have been epic.

100 percent correct. And not just because he's The Rock and it would have been epic, but also because the last opponent was lame.

Turning the corner to season 7. So many kids and Borgs. And kid Borgs. We get it: BORGS! My goodness. Another Borg Queen, half the main cast turn Borg (without any nasty side effects apparently), there are Borg drone kids. Lots of Doctor stories. Too many. Paris and Torres do finally get married in the real universe. A pretty good racing episode. Paris gets demoted and disgraced, then promoted while Kim isn't even considered for promotion. He fails at love more than Geordi. After a strong couple of seasons it looks like their wrapping up as the wheels start to wobble. The tone of the show is total different episode to episode. A light ghost story followed by BORG! It feels wrong watching back to back.

Might have been easier to take with a week or more between episodes.

That's what I was thinking. And I'm really hoping it's Reg that gets them home.

You don't remember, from before?

I didn't get to the end the first time around. I do know there's an old lady Janeway but that's about it.

OLD LADY? Really?

I won't elaborate but the Reg angle is a big NOPE!

Oh great, pop his balloon!

OK. It's over! The ending was a bit abrupt but good. They gave Neelix a good send off before the last episodes. Certainly treated better than "Old" Kes, spy Seska and the creepy Vulcan that worked in Engineering. They all got their goodbyes or at least seen one more time. So is Janeway now trapped in this infinite time loop? Kim looked good in his old-man makeup. Good to at least see Barkley had a part in the ending. Seven and Chakotay romance was weird... and unconvincing. Interesting to compare the cast today with how they were aged to what they look like now. But the end was a bit of a wash, wasn't it? They really hit reset and we have no idea what happened to them short of a movie cameo, Prodigy, and Picard with Seven of Nine.

Apple TV has the Foundation series based on Asimov's famous SF book series I also heard their All For Mankind series is good (it's a alternate History show that showed what would have happened if the Russians were the first to land on the Moon produced by Ron D Moore(TNG,DS9,VOY, the remake of Battlestar Galactica)) .Plus I'm currently just started watching The Company Wolves which is also a SF series on HBO Max. Snowpiercer is a good series on Netflix

What I'm hearing is that "nobody" (i.e., very few, not nearly enough to cover the cost) is watching the "Foundation" series. And that it's pretty awful.

Oh the trailers looked pretty awesome but then again the story of The Foundation spans hundreds of years wonder how they will manage to pull that off.

Well it doesn't take hundreds of years to read the books, so it should be doable.

The main problem I would see is that Asimov himself was something of a luddite, and the peoples/worlds in the Foundation series really didn't change much over those hundreds of years. So it doesn't seem like they would need to create a whole lot of different sets to portray over that time span.

I was talking from a narrative perspective even within the books themselves the protagonist of the story changes over time I wonder if audiences can appreciate that also it makes it harder for viewers to invest in certain characters
