I like that they didn't kill Bonnie, that was a relief. They did try to have some sort of resolution for each of the characters. The Klaus letter was a nice touch. I'm not sure I want Caroline on TO though. The whole Katherine storyline seemed a bit rushed to me.

The close up shot of Damon and Elana's hands at the end would have had more of an impact if they had shown an old couple's hands. Her monologue about this long life together, but they look exactly the same, lol. I mean, I'm glad they didn't do old age makeup on them, but just having an old couple's hands would have been sweet I think.

I liked seeing the past characters in their "ghost" farewell.

However, hated that in the end out of all the "epic" romances only Elena and Damon got to grow old together. Everyone else had to wait until the afterlife. I especially felt bad for Stefan, Bonnie and Matt each for different reasons. Stefan for losing his true love to his brother but then finding another only to sacrifice himself for his brother. Bonnie for always sacrificing her life/family for others and still losing her love. And Matt... damn couldn't they have thrown him a bone and given him a lasting love and not just a park bench?

Lmao not just a park bench!! No kidding! Poor dude. I kind of wish they would have shown him with a wife and kids or something.

Stefan is waiting for Caroline in the afterlife ? But as a vampire Caroline could live for a few hundred more yr or more .

OK, sorry about my question, but I wasn't paying attention, kinda was pretending I was working... :-/ So, Damon and Elena were both human and died as humans? That's what happened? And Elena saw her family because she was dead?! I'm confused because there were Caroline and her mother, and Alaric and Jo, but Ric and Caroline were not dead.

I think it was the show's way of saying that because hell was destroyed, everyone had a peaceful afterlife. Jo, Elana's family, Caroline's mom, Tyler, Vicki, and all the other supernatural beings weren't being tortured in hell. They were peaceful, and watching over their loved ones.

Elena explained that her and Damon grew old together and eventually died. When she died, she reunited with her dead family members in her version of heaven and when Damon died he reunited with Stephen. Caroline, Alaric, and Matt were very much alive when their loved ones came and visited them in a "I'm watching over you" sense. They didn't actually see their loved ones but had a feeling they were there.

Oh, thanks! I totally missed that Stefan made Damon human. I thought, yeah, he injected something, whatever, moving on.

Overall, I feel this should have been a two-hour finale because an hour felt too rushed. For Katherine to be the original big bad and the ultimate one to defeat, it was too easy to defeat her. She should have had more tricks up her sleeve and gave the team more of a challenge.

I hated it, but I had a feeling it would be Stephen to make the ultimate sacrifice. Being a Klaroline fan, I figured Stephen had to die in order to leave the door open for that, which I wish there could have been another way, but think this was the only way. I loved seeing Lexi again in Stephen's afterlife, but was a little confused. I may have been reading too much into it, but when Stephen hugged her I thought maybe it was trying to portray that she was his true soulmate. It would make sense, since Elena is not his anymore and Caroline essentially might move on with Klaus, but Lexi was always portrayed as his best friend and nothing more.

I am glad Bonnie didn't die so Elena could come back, but I think Bonnie could have found a loophole a while ago to live and bring Elena back. I know it was because of the behind the scenes and Nina wanting out, but I always felt like they could have always easily woke Elena up without killing Bonnie. I wasn't a big fan of Benzo, but I'm glad there was peace and Bonnie did get a semi-happy ending and Enzo would always be with her in a sense.

I have never been a fan of Delana, so I'm glad we didn't see an over-saturated love fest between them. They reunited and it was pretty much narrated to us that they had a happy life and grew old together. If they had to be together, I'm glad it was mostly for us to hear about and not actually seen.

I guess Matt is just happy being the sheriff, they could have given him a love interest. We didn't have to know her or see her, but they could have said he found love and had some kids or something. That would have been better than just a park bench.

I'm glad Alaric and Caroline opened their gifted school. And glad that they threw us a Klaus bone for Klaroline shippers.

Ultimately, I was glad to see that Damon reunited with Stephen in the afterlife. I always felt the show was more about the brothers than anything else.

Again, the episode was fine, but kind of underwhelming for a series finale.

All together a satisfying ending, good to see so many faces again including Lexie and a resuscitated Porsche. Too bad the TO cast got released from their contracts, I so wanted Caroline to show up in NOLA.

So ghost Enzo will be a cockblocker for Bonnie? She needs to move on.

Katherine was disappointing, I remember her funnier and smarter.

I agree with another poster that it should have been a 2 hour finale. It felt way too rushed. With it being the big episode where Nina was coming back, I felt like I should have showcased her a little more. Now, im not a huge fan of Katherine, I liked her just fine for a bad guy but I had wished there was more Elena in this episode. Not so there was more Delena, just so there was more HER in in. She was only in like the last 10 minutes, and she barely had any lines. Jeremy returned, but it wasnt even on screen with his sister, and was literally a 4 second screen shot of him and that was it. I had been expecting a brother sister scene at least. Although I called it when I thought he would only appear very briefly like when she went to sleep.

I am a little upset Stefan and Caroline didnt get more time together. It was like married, BAM dead and moving on. I wasnt a BIG fan of them together, when I first saw it I was like ick that doesnt work, but rewatching it I can see how their friendship grew into more. I know someone had to die, and even tho im not happy it was Stefan, theres noone else I would have wanted it to be either. But a few days, a honey moon? That would have been nice. But I guess in a way it gave Caroline and him their happy ending....And now Alaric kinda gets his as he gets Caroline back as a mother without having to watch her with Stefan.

For Bonnie, im happy she didnt have to die for Elena to come back..I really thought Kai was going to have something to do with that, but im glad she did it on her own and got back to being a witch. I had thought for a second that they might Jeremy back FOR Bonnie since Enzo was dead. Like a nice little heres an old love tie up your ending kinda way. But I wasnt a fan of them either.

I was disappointed there was no Alaric and Elena scene...They seemed so close when he was living with them that it seemed like they had created a little family..Then he died and that seemed to vanish a little bit when he was back. But it would have been nice to see them reunite and him be happy she was alive, meet his kids. I get WHY, at least story wise why he hasnt been in much of this season. But I would have liked him to have a bigger role in stopping Katherine.

Overall, I would have liked to see more Elena, even more Katherine. Needing the episode to be a little longer, or even if they had spanned it over the last 2 episodes instead of trying to do it all in one. For the chick who barely had any Elena lines, she couldnt come back for 2 episodes instead of 1? Obviously she came back because she said she would, which she more than likely said because she actually cared about the show and the character...So why not give it a good go for an ending instead of shoving your entire shows character into 10 minutes.

As a last couple thoughts....are we just supposed to assume that Damon is good now? That they spent their lives happily ever after? He killed far more people than anyone, id expect hed go a little crazy afterwards but they made it seem like everything was so super perfect and they lived normal happy lives forever. Poor Caroline too, left as the only vampire, to be the fair the only one who really seemed to be good as a vampire...but poor thing, shes going to watch literally everyone die and then still be a vampire. I would have told Damon too take the cure out of himself before he died and ship it off to her JUST in case she didnt want to live without everyone. I did like that SO many old faces came back. I was actually surprised to see Jenna as shes never been back for anything since she died. I liked seeing Lexi as even tho she was only alive 1 episode, shes been a big supporter of the show and in a few episodes as flash backs and such. So that was nice.

Done with your drivel? "last couple thoughts....are we just supposed to assume that Damon is good now?" Really?
Such a tool. Had to ask like rest were saints.

??? with Stefans ripper days in mind, how do you know Damon killed far more people than his brother?

Scary thing about Hell being destroyed is that some people/monsters need to be in it. God, do we really want to think about Jeffrey Dahmer-like killers getting a free pass out and just ghostly stalking humanity. Creepy.

Seriously! They never did give Matt a solid story line and he's one of the better actors.

There was a scene and he said it ? Stefan wanted to sacrifice himself said he killed a bunch of people, Damon replied to him that he had killed even more. I just assumed, because they said it.

So so SO disappointed with that excuse for an ending, but then I guess I should have expected it. So rushed and too easy to just skip to the end and say everyone lived happily ever after. It hardly brought back any of the feels of the good old days of TVD S1-4/5. They couldn't even give Jenna or Jeremy a proper appearance or any dialogue with Elena. Elena and Damon reuniting was so underwhelming. Bonnie just got stuck with a ghost.

TBH I wish they'd stopped around S4 or S5 when they were at a high, but as soon as they started killing off all the most important characters including the entire backdrop of Mystic Falls town, one by one, the show started to go downhill. This made me so sad because it really was my favorite show that I've followed, EVER, but I was just more and more dismayed at what they did to it, all the while feeling the need to remain loyal and see the brothers' story out to the end.

Oh well, I'll just have to watch reruns of S1-5 for nostalgia's sake and be satisfied with that :/
