The Wire or The Shield?

Which do you prefer? Critical consensus is The Wire is better but I slightly prefer The Shield. The Wire is probably a bit more intelligent but The Shield is more fun. Though I love them both. I'll post this on both shows forums.

Apples and oranges and I love both. I prefer the Wire overall based on what you said. It's more serious and real. The Shield is great entertainment and goes along with a big bucket of popcorn

Both were awesome, but I personally prefer The Shield.

The Shield, is a rather excellent TV police drama, especially with its emphasis on police corruption. Moreover I am a big fan of Walton Goggins: a very versatile actor who was equally excellent in "Justified"
But if I had to pick one, I would have to go for The Wire, not least because it has a far more broader range of social topics (schools, media, politics, unions, and of course the streets)
