the rule is stupid and needs to be re-written, that's the main point. we can talk semantics all day about what a season is and how tmdb should organize the episodes, but the only true way to fix this is to re-write this rule so that situations like this, jujutsu kaisen season 2, and other anime don't happen anymore. but, i'll stop here, because i don't really like arguing online despite what my past discussion posts might show. just please consider re-writing it, mods.

No.

The rules are right, in fact in the Bible > episodes > anime > special said:

Special TV episodes, single-episode OVAs, recap episodes (unless they are numerated as regular episodes), bonus episodes bundled with the DVD release, and any episodes that didn't air during the initial Japanese TV broadcast belong in the Specials.

And Honestly in my opinion the two finals does not fit in any case

These rules also apply:

The first episode of a season is always "1" not "0". Episodes officially released as "Episode 0" are added in the Specials. This is also true for episodes released as "Episode 0.5" as well as any other odd-numbered or unnumbered episodes.

And these episodes fit the case of unnumbered episodes.

Anime rules doesn't replace the standard TV shows rules, they supplement them.

Then there is no discussion, for those who want to follow the series it is possible to create groups of episodes after all

The problem is groups are not the default sorting method on applications using TMDB as database. And most of them don't even support groups.

That ist not a problem of TMDB, but of applications. Not TMDB must change, the programmers which write application must change the applications.

Not enough... these rules are not consistent, otherwise why would this thread still be active. Stop being so obtuse with these rules...

Same thing that I said

I agree, these are the rules. if we have inconsistency on other apps, we have to insist with apps, feedback and assistances.

The APIs to do this exists, when apps have enough reports they will adapt to tmdb if they want.

But the support of episode groups by other applications is not the problem... Episode groups are not the magic solution to this bad numbering. It makes sense in other situations, but not. The final episodes must be in season 4.

For apps programmer, please use the groups as your sortings i.e. as popup button. Each entry selected a different group of sorting. More is not needed.

But we don't care about the groups of the episodes, that's not the problem. And even less the solution. The basic decoupage is not good. The final episodes must be put in season 4.

Using episode groups dose not help at all, it quiet a disaster in my opinion because the episodes already numbered as S00E36 and S00E37 so it will show up as 1st and 2nd episode in that group (as you can see in the images, using Kodi). The Episode it is already and clearly part of "The Final Season" in the official site and right after Ep87, and TMDb ignoring that fact like it is nothing.

TMDb are already avoiding its own rules and made up a Season number for "The Final Season" and called it "Season 4" which clearly not numbered in the official site.

TMDb are already avoiding its own rules and not following the official site episodes numbering like calling EP87 as S04E28.

Anyway TMDb started wrong for a show that almost a 10 years old by now and literally in the last 2 episodes woke up and said it is not following the rules lets number them as S00E36 and S00E37, Who in the ***** entire world dose that???!

My point is DO NOT STAND IN BETWEEN either continue as you started making up seasons and episode numbering and call the last 2 episodes as S04E29 and S04E30 OR start all over again and ditch the seasons and make it just episodes from 01-87, even so you will have to make up numbers for last 2 episodes.

I hope this discussion dose not end up as a big waist of time (it been already 4-5 months) for us and for you as moderators.

@KiNGxNiNjA

For Kodi or so:

Go to the setting of the episode (s00x36) and set the "sort in season" 1 or so and "sort before episode" to the last number of the last episode (e.g. episode 87 you have to enter 88).

Otherwise KODI or so have a design problem. The Interpreting the data from the API is most complex including it mapping (order numbers are important for sorting on each level - season numbers and episode numbers are only for display on screen).

Difference between old and new design:

old design: sorting is interpolated from season/episode number -> not flexible

new design: strictly separation of sorting and numbering -> flexible

I say it, not TMDB must change, the apps like KODI must change to a new design for sorting for more flexibility on sorting. Each episode group are a preset for the sorting.
