Saw a “Nanny” reboot parody on YooToob, and startedabout TBBT's afterlife.
Does anyone think that 20 years hence there will be a TBBT reboot? The actor in Young Sheldon will be about the right age to play an older version of his character.
I think:
(1) Probably not. Older nerds who grew up with this show, no doubt, will be nostalgic for a trip down memory lane, and a whatever-happened-to glimpse of the characters of a show they knew and loved. But, this group would not be the ‘target audience’ for a reboot. And, I don’t think that new nerds (target audience for a reboot)—without that shared-history with the show—would find it a draw.
Or…
(2) A possibility. If Young Sheldon lasts anywhere near as long as TBBT, and becomes anywhere near as popular, then maybe its fans (target audience for a reboot) would have enough interest to want to follow on to the-rest-of-the-story.
Or…
(3) No way. By then the Reboot Train will have derailed, long time, due to being constantly overloaded with garbage.

I wish we could post images here. It's such a pain to find a good image & then try to find a simple way to link to it.

I don't see Young Sheldon going anywhere, at best a few more seasons, although I have mostly lost interest in it myself. Young Sheldon is going to have to grow up pretty slow as soon he is of to college which will require cast changes and new sets as well. Maybe a similar show will pop up. TBBT was so much more than Sheldon, young or old. Also so far there has been no reboot of once popular shows like Friends, (that show that complainers always said TBBT was copy of). I could see a variation on the concept which may or may not fly. Something like "The Goldbergs" which can be seen as a variation of "That 70s Show" just in a different decade. The whole cool nerd thing might be burned out as well.
The main thing is to imagine what television/streaming/web shows will be in 20 years.

As Jay Sherman says in The Critic, "If there's the original and a remake, SEE THE ORIGINAL!"
Once Young Sheldon is over, if people want to see "the continuation" all they have to do is pop in the first season 1 DVD (or Blu-ray) of TBBT.
