This board and the old board seemed to me to have more Star Trek and DC/Marvel aficionados. Just curious if anyone here gives a crap. Each of the new Disney SW movies always stir up a Wookies worth of trouble. Do you dress up like a Storm Trooper in your off hours or do you think it is just Babylon 5 with more money?

Yes, in that sense there's really no suspense in especially Star Wars prequels. But the point of those was supposed to be more to show us how the characters we already knew, became who they are/were. The problem was that George Lucas especially didn't do a very good job of THAT.

Lucas did a HORRIBLE job of that.
STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, the TV show, and DISCOVERY are prequels. ENTERPRISE had it's faults, but in the final season, they were doing what they should have been doing all along. Unfortunately by that time, UPN had moved it to the Friday night death slot. It's too bad. Had they started with what they did in Season 4, the show, imo, would have flourished.
Some may disagree, but the best thing that happened to TREK was they moved away from Roddenberry after his death, and from Harve Bennett, and then from Rick Berman. They've charted new directons with new leaders. Even the "Kelvin" universe, led by J.J. Abrams is good (not great - but good). I was very disappointed when Abrams went to tackle Star Wars. Basically because I think it's unfixable at this point, and there really wasn't that much deviation from Lucas's original boring, dull, plodding 'vision'.
I wish Abrams would return full time to the Trek universe, but after seeing DISCOVERY (most of it anyway), the Trek world will, like with the others, survive without him. THough I think he's still involved in a certain extent with the "Kelvin" film franchise.

Well...
These purveyors of sci-fi wonderfulness are in the entertainment business; not in the academic pursuits business. These constant-criticizers who bitch, moan, and groan about "what they didn't do" and/or, about “HOW they should have done what they did do" would do well to remember that.
These constant-criticizers, who have never made a dollar with a movie or TV show (OR ever made a movie or TV show, for that matter) are laughable--sitting on their high-horse, looking down their nose at the folks who have made multi-multi-multi billions AND entertained the masses.

Of course, "no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the public." So their success isn't necessarily a good sign.

Nobody in the movie "Idiocracy" thought anything was wrong, either.

How about some "context" to go with that statement

So does this just apply to those who criticize and give their opinions on SciFi? Or does it apply across the board? I'm just curious as to who or what group this statement is pointed at

The best context is probably to see the movie.

If the Boot fits not shoe. Boots are more common foot ware of choice in Sci-Fi. Now the fans clicking away their comments online might be wearing fuzzy slippers.

That's a weak reply and a cop out way of debating a point. I don't have to win MASTERCHEF to know when a chef overcooks my steak. I don't have to be Derek Jeter to know when an IF makes an error - and it's not a requirement that I have acted (which I have) or be in a movie (which I have) or directed and or produced a film to have an opinion on the Star Wars franchise. To sit back and not engage the topic, and simply say "You've never done that" , as if that invalidates any point made here by anyone, is elementary school yard debate tactics.
Just because something makes millions or billions does not equal "quality". There's plenty of commercially successful films that are complete trash. Likewise there are myriad of films that didn't make millions, let alone billions, that are absolutely wonderful.
Do you have any response to any of the critical posts about Star Wars? Or is all we get "You can't talk about it because you haven't made millions in the film industry" ?
Try on that shoe for size.

I believe its called the Appeal to Authority fallacy, in other words , either my expertise makes me correct or someone else's expertise makes them infallible.
But I always remember the quote " If experts say it can't be done, find new experts".

Who died and left you Lord and Master when it comes to determining the substance of how someone debates a point?
