Discuss The Big Bang Theory

Music is a device that writers can use to convey a feeling more strongly than words and facial expressions alone can. In a sitcom it can add to the comedic effect, sense of fun, sense of zaniness, etc. The only two scenes I can remember on TBBT where scenes were set to music were:

1)"Be My Yoko Ono" in The Cooper-Nowitski Theorem Link to scene

2)"Eye of the Tiger" in The Pirate Solution Link to scene

I posit that the music greatly added to these scenes and the show needs more of this.

A.Do you agree?

B.Can you think of other scenes in TBBT's history where music was employed like this?

C.Any specific songs you'd like to see on the show?

It's so lemony in here today. stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye

It could use a few more, but it's never good to go overboard with it. And of course, we always have Howard to belt out a few tunes, like he did with "Bernadette" at the Cheesecake Factory. And let's not forget karaoke night. Bernadette never will...no matter how much therapy she attends.

As for suggestions, maybe on a nerd-like marathon after fighting with their SO's, they could play The Boys Are Back In Town (either Thin Lizzy or The Busboys, they both work).

I agree- definitely in moderation. And I like your song selection! I could see that fitting right in.

Believe it or not Lemons I had near the very same idea. In fact here is as I have these potential topics ready to post when I have the nerve. This is how I had it ready to go.

_"Musical montages: A standby scene in television and movies is the musical montage. In TBBT we had Sheldon and Raj working out their cerebral cortexes to “Eye of the Tiger”, Ramona pestering Sheldon to “Be my Yoko Ono” and Amy and Sheldon doing couple-y stuff to “Happy Together”. Pick a song, activity and characters for your own big bang musical montage." _

One problem with these is that the songs are the usual overplayed ones. There is one and I don't recall it but it is set just to some general show music not a song. Maybe they should do something to a number that those hooligans danced to in "Grease" the movie that Amy's mom warned her and rightly so about.

We really do think a lot alike, Z. I guess that's why we ended up pals. And I could actually see our gang doing a scene to "Summer Nights" from "Grease"- the girls in black leather jackets, the guys in poodle skirts. It would have to be a daydream/dream, but ain't nothing wrong with that here and there. For some reason, I can see this song working with the guys. Maybe during a kite flying scene in the park?

I'd like to see Ramona or maybe even Penny do something like "Don't cha" by the Pussycat Dolls with/to Sheldon. It could even be Ramona, Penny, AND Bernadette. (Sadly, I couldn't find a video online that didn't include Busta Rhymes messing things up. But they did the song without him in an episode of Las Vegas.)

I'm not sure what Amy would think of that. We wouldn't want to her have a coffee can of coins in her purse while they were doing it, I know that!

Not against using music to enhance a joke; but, (coming off a series where the music choices left me unamused I realized that it is probably a lot harder to hit the right note upside_down than it appears.

The problem is that for some, at best, it’s just background noise, and at worst, it’s an intrusion because “they don’t get it (my situation--if my fellow posters on that other show's Board are to be believed.)

“Yoko” and “Tiger” mean something to us (I mean to “the us” who got the jokes); but maybe not so much to others (I mean “the others” who did not).

In answer to the OP's question re: more; if it is something that’s iconic and/or universally recognizable I’d be all for it--not often, but I see no problem with such an enhancement every now and then.

They probably can't afford to pay the royalties since the actors are so obscenely overpaid!

Well, there is always the Public domain . But, probably won't find any of the good stuff produced in the last 50 years (est.).

As for the actors' pay:

Don't blame the actors for their top-line salaries; blame their handlers. Their handlers are the ones that push salaries to the limits SO THAT they can get their comparable cuts.

With actors it's how-much-am-I-worth; with handlers it's how-much-can-I-get. (That's a meism; so no one should go looking for a source. sunglasses )

I blame the actor's, they aren't brain damaged, etc. They can say stop this is enough! NOBODY NEEDS TO EARN $1,000,000.00 per episode. There was the story where the 'bigger' stars would take a pay cut so Rauch & Bialik could get a raise from $200,000.00 to $450,000.00 an episode. NOBODY needs $200,000.00 an episode. There are people in the world that are trying to save lives (cancer researchers, etc.), people that are saving lives (doctors, nurses, etc.) who don't earn anything close to that. To me that is so wrong!

I know it sounds callous, and I don't mean to be, but one has nothing to do with the other.

Doctors/nurses/etc. don’t make less because actors make more.

Actors don’t make more at the expense of doctors/nurses/etc.

If actors are paid less does that mean doctors/nurses/etc. are going to be paid more--NO.

It’s OK to think actors are overpaid, but it’s NOT OK to say they don’t deserve it just because others who provide essential services don’t make as much?

Do I think the actors on this show are overpaid--No. Truth is; I don't care how much they get paid--it's not my money.

Not directly your money out of your pocket, but you could say it's costing you your time, since the more they get paid, the less actual show there is to see. It's down to sometimes under 18 minutes now, per episode.

Shows make money from ads, those ads entice people to buy stuff. So yes it does come out of your pocket, my pocket, everybody's pocket. Even if someone doesn't watch the show personally if you buy even one of products advertised you are putting money in 'their' pockets.

As far as I know, I've never bought anything advertised on this show.

However, I DO KNOW that I've never bought anything BECAUSE it was advertised on this show.

30 minutes is 30 minutes.

21 minutes of show + 9 minutes of ads = 30 minutes

18 minutes of show + 12 minutes of ads = 30 minutes

From 8 to 8:30 this is where I be; I don't have to cut out a nanosecond more based on the actors's pay.

Don't assume I don't enjoy ads.
