There's a theory I've been nursing for a while that the Superior might turn out to be some television interpretation of MODOK (kind of like the television interpretation of Hive that we got last season). I first had the idea only because "superior" is often how MODOK would describe himself in the comics, but last night's episode offered up a real piece of evidence that this may be the case.
The Superior's human head is now being held in some kind of glass container, and considering that his mind is now mechanized (as the M in MODOK stands for), this could be a subtle reference to the comic book character, even though neither the glass container nor his mechanical body bear any resemblance to the iconic look.
I know that MODOK is a pretty big character to be introducing into the MCU on some side show like AoS, but they may also have no plans to incorporate him into any future films because he is just, well, a kind of weird character that they may be afraid of adapting into a big budget film, so I don't think it's totally beyond reason that he could make an appearance here.

Would be cool if he's a villain straight from the comics, but after Hive I doubt it.
