Over five years after the end, I still feel betrayed:
Dan "apparently" being gossip girl, made me feel I wasted six years of my life watching this program. This was a desperate decision, made in the last series, not tying into anything that had gone before.
Dair not happening. Surely that was the whole point of the six series, leading up to that being the "endgame". Again, five years of my life wasted on being a dair shipper.

Definitely understand being upset about Dan being GG. Personally I was fine with it, but there’s plenty of holes.
Dair though, I just wasn’t a fan. I didn’t like the person Dan became when he fell for Blair. I feel like he just lost himself. He was terrible to Serena and his family. He became pretty self entitled too.
I don’t want to criticize your ship too much because I’ve been on the other side with various couples, but personally they just weren’t for me.

Producers will often try to come up with some surprise reveal or twist at the end of a TV series. They'll usually choose one that is the most improbable and contrived, so people will watch it over and over again to try and spot the inconsistencies.
As creators of this show, they have the last word and they're quite content with having fooled most of the viewers.
Of course that wasn't too difficult. Any reveal would have to be accepted, even if it was "Dog With a Blog (2012)".
