I think the confusion here may actually be related to Production Breaks vs. Aired Breaks. It is true that Kitchen Nightmares (US) was recorded in 7 breaks. I.e. 22 eps, but it was aired with a break. The gap in the air dates alone should be a bit of a clue.

Looks like everything discussed has failed…. As tmdb mods have created a new series for “kitchen nightmares 2023” and removed season 7 from the original US series.

This is actually a new series: https://www.fox.com/kitchen-nightmares-us/

That's also completely invalid to state. This is NOT a new series at all. All promos say "new season" e.t.c. Fox simply uploaded it like that as they do not have the license for the other seasons for streaming currently. FilmRise has the rights in UK, and I believe Tubi in US.

As per our rules, we should base our listing on the way the broadcaster list it. Consequently, this should be listed as season 1 of a new show as this is the way Fox officially release it.

If this is the case can the new series be listed as "Kitchen nightmares (2023)" so that other programs that source this information can differentiate the new series as apposed to not recognising it at all?

The year is a separate field. It should never be added to the title field. I quote the rule : "There should be no extra info such as the year of release "MacGyver (2016)" or a country code "Shameless (US)" added to the titles."

Is it possible to keep the 2023 series for the convenience of administrators and moderators, while also adding an alternate version of the 2007 series that appears as Season 8 for everyone else who relies on this listing?

No, this is not possible. We are only going as per the original broadcaster, aka Fox.
