Discuss The Andy Griffith Show

Andy was a very well-meaning but kind of redneck sheriff all the same. In one ep he leaves Barney in charge for the afternoon and when he gets back the deputy has two under arrest in the jail cells. One had built a fence on the other's property. Barney tells Andy that he (Barn) looked up in the books and found a similar law case. With no regard to any possible legal precedent his deputy had possibly discovered Andy proceeds to settle the dispute between the two parties and then releases both individuals. What about the possible legal precedent? Also, we do not see that the men's temporary incarceration in the jail was recorded anywhere--another rather redneck move.
