Discuss Outer Banks

I'm not big on teenage-focused shows and films. I gave this a try last night since it was new on Netflix. Its a great show! Not so typical in my opinion and a great backdrop supposedly in the beautiful Outer Banks of NC, but actually filmed in SC. Been there many times and recognized quite a few landmarks in the show.

None of the actors are actually teenage nor look it especially John B who looks like he's in his mid to late twenties. I have no problem with the cast that they used but they should have adjusted the characters' ages to match the cast. Either that or found actors who could pass better as teens. There is already too much suspension of disbelief in this show.

Anyway that might be why you liked this and not other teen shows. Because none of them are actually teens or even look or act like teens. They even buy beer in one episode.

I also don't understand why they didn't shoot in the actual Outer Banks. I read that it had to do with an anti-LGBT law in North Carolina so they had to shoot everything in South Carolina. But what law could that have possibly been? It's not like they were shooting gay porn. There aren't even any LGBT characters on this show, which by the way is unusual for Netflix.

No, they didn't have to shoot it in SC. They chose to shoot in SC instead of NC in protest because of HB2, along with many other companies, local governments, etc. Here is the background of HB2:
