I don’t know whether to file this under content issues or general.

I know TMDb does not, and will not, support alternate cuts of the same movie. But JustWatch does, and sometimes a movie is available on a streaming provider in a different cut than the original, neatly documented by JustWatch, in which case the TMDb website and API however don’t reflect that.

To clarify first: there are lots of movies with alternate cuts that have just a single entry on JustWatch, no issues there. For example, the 3h28mins director’s cut of Das Boot (1981) is currently streaming on Netflix NL, but JW has only one version and files Netflix NL under the original 2h30mins cut. And so does TMDb. This is fine; at least I know I can find the movie there, and I can always look in Netflix itself to see which specific cut is streaming if I want to. In 98% of cases, it is the original cut anyway.

My point is for those (few) movies that have separate entries/versions on JW. For example, Blade Runner: The Final Cut is currently available on Netflix AU (neatly listed by JW), but the original cut and the director’s cut are not. TMDb follows the information from the 1982 original, of course, but it means that Netflix AU doesn’t show up on both the website and API. Thus I won’t look for Blade Runner on Netflix AU, even though I can stream it there (in a different version, yes, but that doesn’t matter). I remember a similar problem with Apocalypse Now a while ago; the Redux cut was on Netflix NL but TMDb didn't mention it because it only ever shows the streaming info of the original cut.

TL;DR: Please consider adding streaming info from different cuts/versions on JustWatch to the main TMDb entry, to improve searchability of movies for streaming availability. This should also improve the usability of apps like Letterboxd and others that rely on the TMDb API for streaming info.
