Dear The Movie Database Team ,

My name is Vivien(TMDB member name: misamisakurapika) and I am a senior student in University of Business from China. I am pursuing my bachelor degree in Economics and Finance. I am interested in data analysis. Having taken courses on data analysis and programming such as python and C++, I have worked on projects and have internships related to data analysis. What’s more, I am also a movie lover. I have watched more that 500 movies and have interests in the movie industry.

Regarding the TMDB Box Office Prediction competition by Kaggle, I am writing to you to plead for the permission to the use of the TMDB data for machine learning research and the subsequent publication of a research paper based on a developed model. I have been working with the data provided by TMDB to predict movies' box office and I appreciate that this competition offers an opportunity to explore data analysis in the movie industry.

The data given in TMDB Box Office Prediction competition by Kaggle is available up to 2017. And I have intentions to extend beyond this: to study the features of the movie industry and predict the movie’s box office with more updated data (such as until 2022 or 2023). To achieve this, I have applied and obtained access to the TMDB database's API through the API key granted to me by the TMDB website.

While I have access to data up to the current date, I am well aware that the API's terms of use currently prohibit the application of this data for machine learning purposes. Additionally, I understand that TMDB holds intellectual property rights to the data.

My intention is to conduct thorough and ethical research, obliging to all data usage guidelines and giving due credit to TMDB for the dataset. I believe that the insights derived from this the more updated dataset will not only benefit the machine learning community but also showcase the richness and relevance of TMDB's data.

In my model, I consider to study the different features of movies, examine the correlation between revenue and these features, and ultimately predict movie reception and revenue. Several data analysis and machine learning techniques that are conducted in the model include the utilization of Python libraries such as pandas, numpy, and scikit-learn. Additionally, there are regression techniques, such as linear regression, decision tree regression, and such machine learning methods for data prediction.

I am willing to discuss and comply with any specific terms or conditions you may require to facilitate this collaboration. It is my sincere hope that we can find a mutually beneficial arrangement that allows for responsible use of TMDB data for research purposes.
