The Movie Database Support

I wonder why I should contribute to the film database here? As far as I can see, the site and database are closed source. So nothing different compared to IMDb. In the end, the data does not belong to the community, but to Xperi Inc. I find that highly problematic.

Nobody said you have to contribute; it's all voluntary. And yes, presumably they monetize the content by furnishing data to companies who need it for their products/services. That activity helps pay to keep the site running so that visitors can find the information contained here and also discuss movies and TV shows in the user forums. When IMDb closed its forums in Feb. 2017, many of us came over here to discuss various topics on these forums.
