Episodes of some long-running TV anthology series (e.g., American Experience) exist as movies in TMDB. This seems to be permitted per the bible as "Episodes of an anthology series that are treated like TV movies (e.g. individual DVD release, theatrical release)." If this assumption is wrong, or if you are thinking about changing this policy, please indicate. There is a logic to this approach, but the inability to link these titles in any way makes them unwieldy.
Collections for these movies would really help. No, these are not direct sequels, but limiting collections to direct sequels is selling the feature short. Collections would work well in this context, since these movies would never need appear in more than one collection.

The classification for series that are not exactly TV series is a major problem on TMDB. Currently there is no orgnizational structure for them at all.

They are already grouped in their TV series. The movies are individual movies for individual use.
The TV series part of our database is only for TV series as the name imply.
"Tom and Jerry" were individual short theatrical movies and should be listed as such.
