Extra Details: I'm not sure how many of these films should be grouped together in this collection, but it's definitely not all five of them.
Purple Noon and The Talented Mr. Ripley are both adapted from the novel The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The American Friend and Ripley's Game are both adapted from the novel Ripley's Game.
I don't know whether the three American adaptations (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Ripley's Game & Ripley Under Ground) are a proper series or not, but the two European films are obviously unconnected to them.

The three most recent adaptations (actually not all American) were produced and distributed by different companies:
So, much like Silence of the Lambs isn't considered a sequel to Manhunter, I don't think these three can really be considered a series.
