Suporte do The Movie Database

I've imported my ratings from IMDB here and on this site the graph for Ratings By Year starts from the 1990s even though a few of the films that I've rated go back to the first half of last century. Shouldn't the graph go back to the year of the film's release and not from when I rated them? You can sort the films that I've seen by release date and you can find those older films there though.

I'm not sure how useful a graph is which shows what year I rated any number of films.

It's possible to view as far back as the year 1900. You can check here to see how.

The last comment in that thread that you linked to is relevant and I second the comment. I was just fiddling with that graph now, on my account and it's not obvious how it all works and I suspect that it will just snap back to how it was when you log out. I.e. the date range will resume being for recent history. It would be good to be able to permanently fix that, if you can't now.

I've just tried clicking on a particular year of my graph a few times and that changes what films appear under the graph. The films that appear under the graph when you've clicked on a particular year aren't even from that year often. It's a completely baffling system this site has.

I can confirm this is indeed a problem.

The expected behavior would be to show only the movies that have a primary release date that matches the year you've selected. Instead, the filter returns all movies that have a release date of any kind and in any country that matches the selected year. This results in confusing lists that don't match the counter given by the graph when you hover over it. To be clear, I am talking about the "Ratings By Year" graph and its behavior when you click in a year.

Here's an example: The movie Fight Club (1999) will appear when clicking 2021. That's because there are two digital releases from Netflix and Disney+ in France that match that year.

Travis, can you take a look?

Yes, this is exactly why its being returned. There's been a lot of work done in this area since the account pages went live so we can query your regional data a lot more reliably now.

I'll try to take a look to tweak this while I am getting the pagination fixed this week. Thanks.

There are three information parameters in play here:

1) What year were the films that I have rated released? 2) In what year did I rate the films that I have rated? 3) Where can I watch the films, e.g. streaming services?

From the small sample in this thread, people expect the information in 1) displayed when clicking on the year.

So, 1) seems like it should be the default display when you click on the year but you should have the ability to see 2) by some filtering mechanism.

IMDB only displays the number of films you've seen from a certain year without the specifics, so you have one over them on that front but the current system here makes the information from that useless to at least two people here. IMDB also allows you to sort your reviews according to your review date (i.e. not the release date of the film).

In my view, 1 to 3 should be separate functions. It would make sense to have streaming information for films confined to particular films, rather than lists.

Is 3) an imperative to provide at that site due its ownership? If it is, that would be a case of business imperatives interfering with information that users want. I hadn't even considered that people would be interested in 2). Maybe people with streaming apps would have information about 3) from some app or website, which was tailored to their region? In other words, maybe 3) isn't information that someone on this site would seek out from here.
