Soporte de The Movie Database

I've noticed a few times where there is a show or movie that has an external IMDB id linked which is to a different type, e.g. a movie linked to a IMDB tv show like this one: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/208397-die-gro-e-flatter/edit?active_nav_item=external_ids

I've read the TMDB bible section on external IDs but there is no mention if this is allowed or not: https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/movie/59f3b16d9251414f20000005#59f73d4c9251416e71000015

It would be nice if somebody could clarify this.

Thanks!

External IDs: any rules regarding media type compatibility?

Unlike IMDB, the database of films and TV Show here on TMDb is independent.
Then, the same IMDB ID can be used in both databases without conflict.
The error is that one of the two entries is wrong, or better said in the wrong place, and must be deleted.
In this example of yours, the film was created here at TMDb in 2013.
But it seems to me that in fact it is a Series, a TV Show.
There are still several cases like that, an item created as a movie when in fact it is a TV Show.
But in your case, a correct entry like TV Show has not yet been created here on TMDb.
In this case, I think it is better to keep the wrong movie so that the information added to it
can be used on the TV Show, when the TV Show is created.

But there are cases where the two entries already exist, the same title in Film and in TV SHow.
In this case it is a duplicate and before deleting the wrong one we can use data and images in what is correct.

You can even create the right TV Show, with season and episodes.
And take advantage of images (poster, backdrop) and the cast and crew data.

I do not know if i was clear. English is not my native language.

Thanks for the reply!

To break this down then:

  1. This example I listed is probably classified wrong and should be a Show.
  2. There is no restriction using an IMDB id from a mismatching type as an external ID and is allowed, as long as it's not pointing to the completely wrong thing obviously.

I think 2 is what I was more interested in knowing, if that's the correct assumption then my question is answered.
