I've been looking for a site that has this option for years.

Maybe the reason you can't find any sites that have that feature is that it's very subjective, and there are so many more actors than there are TV shows and movies. Also, some people get confused between an actor and any given role the actor plays, which muddies the water. For example, shortly after the release of the 1953 film The Hitch-Hiker, William Talman, who played the psychotic titular character, was waiting in his car at a stop light in Los Angeles. A woman in the car next to him got out, came over and slapped his face. He was understandably startled, but he later said that he also took it as a compliment for his acting ability.

I'm not sure I'm very comfortable with the idea of rating people? A favorite feature could be fun, but I feel like rating human beings could get messy fast. man_shrugging

You wouldn't be rating a human being as good or bad, but rather rating their acting ability numerically from 1-10 like we do movies. Whether you rate Tom Hanks a 10 or a 1 it wouldn't reflect them as a person. You might think Tom Hanks is a 10 as an actor, but a 1 as a human or a 1 as an actor and a 10 as a human. One isn't indicative of the other.

Of course it's subjective, just as rating movies are. We all have different preferences when it comes to movie genres. One might dislike musicals and science fiction while another considers them their favorite(s).

I think it would still be fraught with problems. Sometimes great actors are in a weak role or a weak movie, or several of them, and this can reflect badly--and unfairly--on them. Katharine Hepburn, who has won more Oscars than any other actor, was once considered "box office poison." For a while at least, audiences became confused between her personal image and her acting ability.

What's the worst thing that can happen? We have actors we think are criminally underrated or overrated? That happens when ranking movies as well. Part of the fun is seeing where others rank movies/actors/athletes/ etc. compared to how we rank them.

Expecting audiences to not have differing criteria when ranking/rating anything is unrealistic. For example, some Christians might tend to rate Christian films closer to a 10 than a 1 whereas some atheists might rate the same films closer to a 1. Like the message, but find it boring or hate the message, but find it entertaining. Decisions...Decisions. Is it possible some of those same Christians and some of those same atheists might mirror their ratings to Christian and atheist actors? Of course. Many others are simply going to rate a movie or actor based on whether they think the former or latter is good.

Even if we disagree, the feedback is appreciated. I'd be lying though if I wasn't hoping someone knew of a site that allowed for rating actors.

Some sites may be concerned about lawsuits or complaints from actors or their agents. I think one of the reasons IMDb shut down their forums is that a lot of actors/agents complained about personal attacks/insults.

Maybe some of these search results will help you: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=ranking+or+rating+actors+popularity

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&ei=Wxk4YK-ZI5T6-gSA96aAAg&q=ranking+or+rating+actors+ability&oq=ranking+or+rating+actors+ability&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAwyBQghEKABOgcIABBHELADOggIIRAWEB0QHjoHCCEQChCgAVDkugNYsNQDYLCRBGgBcAJ4AIABwwGIAdUIkgEDMC44mAEAoAEBqgEHZ3dzLXdpesgBCMABAQ&sclient=gws-wiz&ved=0ahUKEwjvsraHgIbvAhUUvZ4KHYC7CSAQ4dUDCAw

BTW, you're only the second person I've ever seen always "Like" their own comments.

Actors/agents being protective over their interests isn't surprising. To minimize the attacks/insults you could rate actors, but not allow actor reviews. Only a small number of people who rate movies actually post a movie review anyway.

Thanks for the links. I'll peruse them over and see if I discover anything I hadn't already.

If there is a thumbs up or thumbs down option, out-of-habit I'll probably tap it. Blame Youtube & other social media for that. To prevent you from being correct that I always like my own comments, I did not like this one. I threw that thumbs up your way. No promises about doing it in the future. Habits tend to stick.
