Yes.
You must use the TMDb ID and not the IMDB ID.

Use IMDB ID as ID in API Request

This API Request feature for Movies was implemented about 10 years ago at the request of a client at the time.
But it was never part of Travis Bell's plans.
The client no longer exists, but I believe that "deleting" this resource is a lot of work.
So it still exists. But it can disappear at any time.
This feature was never implemented for TV Show.

EDIT
If you need to find out what a movie's TMDb ID is, and only have the IMDB ID for that movie,
you can use the API Request specific to this discovery.
Find by ID = get/find/{external_id}
