Item: Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone
Language: en-US
Type of Problem: Duplicate
Extra Details: Should this really have a separate entry? It's just an alternate cut, no different from the multiple alternate cuts of Apocalypse Now or Blade Runner, none of which have separate entries.

I'd argue it should have a separate entry. Changes the ending of the movie, unlike other films with different cuts that just add/subtract middle parts. Not to mention it's a different title, instead of "Godfather Part III: Director's Cut" it's an entirely different title

Well your friends of the IMDB change the title for: The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone (1990) -- The Godfather: Part III (original title) So. now correct name of the The Godfather: Part II is: The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone (1990) It is just and alternate cut. Case closed . :D https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099674/

Superman II has two separate entries on imdb and here on tmdb so why shouldn't the Godfather III vs The Godfather Coda?
original superman II https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081573/ https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/8536-superman-ii
superman II - richard donner cut https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0839995/ https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/624479-superman-ii-the-richard-donner-cut

Hi, until we get an official decision from the top that this alternate cut should be allowed as a new entry, it will be deleted since alternative versions are not supported at this time.
This was an admin decision, as was Once Upon a Deadpool. Very rare but it happens once every 3-4 years or so.

There are hundreds of alternative versions of movies released on Blu-Ray, DVD or streaming so that example is not a valid reason for adding a duplicate entry.

I understand what everybody says, but the thing is: "IMDB" change the original name of 1990's movie The Godfather: Part III (1990) to The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone (1990) and then they add the AKA (original name) to The Godfather: Part III (1990)
So?
IMDB mark the rules?
I'm not happy with this change in "IMDB" but for consistency if they do not roll back the original name and add a new entry, maybe we can't do anything. Just saying.... Thanks

Original title on IMDB is of course still The Godfather: Part III. Try setting your IMDb account to only display original titles and you will notice that.

Any update about this? I have the original movie in my collection and I want to add also the new one.
For me this is not a clasical director's cut as it has different title and changes the begining and the end of the movie.

Until there is support for multiple versions of a film, TMDb will always prioritize the original release. In accordance with the guidelines, "Alternative versions, including 3D/IMAX, director's cut, extended versions, dubbed versions, remastered versions, commentary (e.g. RiffTrax), fan events and special screenings" are not supported. You can keep track of the Trello ticket for alternate versions here.
As for your own personal collection, I would look into NFO files for your particular service.

A question here - will the guidlines apply to the 2017 Justice League vs. Zack Snyder's Justice League?

Zack Snyder's Justice League is an approved exception, if that's what you are asking.
