The Movie Database Support

I would like to put forward the suggestion of changing the title and year for ' Uncorked (1999)' to ‘At Sachem Farm (1998)’ Reference: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/24224-uncorked

The reason Im suggesting this is because for other films on the site they seem to either use the date of the actual cinema release or else the earliest preview (e.g. at a festival). This date (1999), appears to be neither of these:

  • First showing, 13 September 1998 (Toronto International Film Festival)
  • First cinema release, 2 May 2001

This film has a number of different titles. Originally, it was titled ‘At Sachem Farm’. For the English language DVDs it is usually titled ‘Higher Love’ or ‘Uncorked’ in the USA.

By this database entry using (1999) and the US title (Uncorked) I would assume that this means that the showing at the 1999 Seattle International Film Festival is being used as a reference? Why not use the earlier Canadian festival, which would change both the title and date?

NB: Imdb uses the 1998 date and the original ‘At Sachem farm’ title.

Thank you in advance for your consideration

The year is determined by the release dates (and their types), as is explained here. The first theatrical release date will determine a film's year (if there's one entered). Premiere dates only factor in if there's no theatrical date entered. I've changed the 1999 date to a premiere release.

As for the original title, "The original title should be the title used for the first official release, not a title only used as a working title before the release or a title only used for festival screenings. " https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/movie#59f3b1749251414f2000000c

Thanks for the clarification, I was not aware of that subtlety in the rules. As this was shown on USA TV between the festival showings and the cinema release, it now makes sense to me why the database would use the USA TV title.

But, are we sure that ‘Uncorked’ is the right choice for that? From what is listed on imdb the film had 3 different titles in the USA. ‘Uncorked’ is the video title, but not the title used for the TV transmissions?

USA (video title): Uncorked USA (cable TV title): Higher Love, Trade Winds

As the TV broadcast came before the video release then one of these two titles should be being used here instead? It was very hard to find info on which was first, but I finally found an article that implies that the title ‘Higher Love’ may have been used for the first USA TV showing: https://opuszine.us/reviews/uncorked-john-huddles-1998 (see last paragraph) I also found consistant references to the title as "Higher Love"(aka "At Sachem Farm") in articles talking about the director's past films. e.g. https://www.facebook.com/notes/after-the-dark/john-huddles-director-biography/183101425124210 http://filmint.nu/after-the-dark-the-wonderful-imagination-of-john-huddles/

So perhaps 'Higher Love' should be used as the title in the database, unless there is some other evidence implying otherwise?

Sound like it. According to TV listings, the film aired as Higher Love on Starz on January 2, 2001. (FYI there's at least one UK physical release with that title.)
