or "Superhero" or "Film noir" etc

Heck i'd even like to add half of these sub genres - https://i.imgur.com/3WPq2xb.jpg

Many of these are keywords eg. sports or superhero

Yeah I said Genre

not keyword.....

Is there a list of all the keywords?

Thank you

I agree to Sport. I miss this genre here, a keyword for this isn't enough imo. the others no.. having 100 genres would generate chaos. I would also welcome 'short' even though I can live quite well with it being a keyword.

The sport genre was removed before my time. I can't say I've ever had the need for it though. man_shrugging

It's a big issue on letterboxd - which is why I was told to come here and ask about it here as this is where they get their stuff

Is it?

I can certainly see adding film noir; but sport is problematic, because it is really more of a vague content area, and as such, it intersects/overlaps with so many existing genres: drama, comedy, documentary, etc.

They could also do it like Trakt and create custom genres based on keywords or other stuff speak_no_evil

Just because they don't use all options/get creative, doesn't mean TMDb should overhaul the database.... or add "genres" that aren't genres see_no_evil

to sort short films they solved it by declaring anything under 41 mins as short film.. They really should work on that custom genres based on keywords thing Marr mentioned, sounds like a brilliant idea.

I don't know if you can see the page if you don't have an account, but for movies they created genres like "Anime"; "Holiday"; "Musical" (alongside Music, they're two separate genres to filter on!); "Sporting Event" and "Superhero" among others I think.

They also created custom genres for TV. Like Home and Garden, Soap etc.

So whats the diference between History or Music and Sports? Why are the first two included but not the third?

As you seem interested in the topic, it might be worth reading this thread.
There are several theses defenses of what should and shouldn't be on the Movie Genre list.

Genres - Movies

There is a topic especially for Movie Genres.
https://www.themoviedb.org/talk/51b5fe1a760ee359996a0e62
This implementation work has been stalled for some time.
But I believe that when work is resumed, this will be the basic topic for implementation.
So I suggest you post your request there.
