Soporte de The Movie Database

Hi, when the new UI arrives, will it emphasise discussion marginally more than the existing one? For example, previously on IMDb there were hugely active chat boards, whereas here, I often visit films and there are no discussion threads. I wonder to what extent it's as a result of the Discussions tab being hidden behind Reviews or in the dropdown. Not saying I have a solution btw, just I love chatting movies and would love to do it more on here! :) Other forums seem really active, so I don't think it's just unpopularity of forums in general (although I don't know the audience population of this site, so maybe it's not quite big enough to have loads of interaction all the time).

I'd like to see Reviews presented secondary to message boards discussion threads, as in many instances there's a no-big-deal (that may be only 5-6 or so sentences long) review covering up multiple good discussions that are much more extensive, interesting, and that have had many participants (meanwhile the review that's covering up the discussions might be from like 2014, and many of us have already seen it year after year, whereas some of the covered-up discussion threads might be from within recent days, weeks, or months).

The message boards are specifically what I (apparently also you) joined TMDb for, when the IMDb boards were about to close in Feb. 2017 (that was three years ago, at 7p.m. US Eastern time on 2/19, that that closing occurred). The boards here are what's always been my main focus of attention here. We've got some good Movies/TV/Celebrities message boards regulars, though depending on what your personal interests and tastes are will play a role in how much response interaction you'll experience, as certain genres, etc. have many more enthusiasts than do others.

Things definitely sometimes are disappointing (frequently, good new threads go without anyone responding anything), though other times activity really gets hopping and is wonderful and rewarding. It pretty much depends on who happens to be around and active on a given day or week (plus I've long noticed that part of the week, and even part of the year definitely makes a difference). A number of regulars, who've become very set in their routines and ways, are decidedly cliquey in their posting and interacting habits, and either solely or mainly acknowledge and interact with their usual pals (and the topics thereof). Other regulars will solely post on Movie boards, others solely on TV boards, others solely on Celebrity boards. So there's a lot of "it is what it is" at play. I've fully gotten used to it all, though do look forward to the message boards, in time, becoming much more active, with far more participants.

@silverhawkins The way discussions are presented are essentially the same as they are today. That part of the design hasn't changed.

The thing about discussions is that are just not a core feature on TMDb, and this is mostly by design. I don't have the time or resources to double down on this as a core feature with so many other, more important things to work on--things that drive the real value of TMDb up. So they are what they are. Here, but not going anywhere.

@genplant29 I did migrate to TMDb from IMDb as a result of the message boards closure, yeah, although I think I might have inevitably made the shift at some stage anyway since I tend to jump ship from anything that becomes too centralised in the hands of a corporate (Amazon in IMDb's case). I recognise the issues you describe with the boards, I guess we'll have to hope the accumulate more active users naturally over time.

@travisbell no worries, it was just a thought. I appreciate you have a ton of other priorities. Thanks for the great work.
