Hi, csab.

I'm relocating this thread to TMDb's API Support forum, where someone may be able to help.

There are Kodi wiki pages about naming here:
https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/Movies
https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/TV_shows

and if everything fails, you could always try to use parsing nfo file:
https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files#Parsing_nfo

thanks for the respond @talestalker those naming conventions are used, still have problems. the metadata is parsed for the show but not for the episodes. any idea?

  1. Sorry for dumb question first, but I have to ask - do you use TMDB or thetvdb?
  2. Does the show have any episode here on TMDB?
  3. If so, does your season/episode numbers correspond to our data?
  4. If so, does the show on TMDB have translation record corresponding to the language of your query?
  5. If all above is OK, what is the show in question and what is the example of file path (directories/filename) for some unmatched episode?
  1. yes, i just downloaded the metadata for Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT
  2. trying to get this -> https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/12609-dragon-ball
  3. i renamed each file corresponding to the data
  4. dunno
  5. example filename: Dragonball.S01E01.Secret.of.the.Dragon.Balls

maybe i am to dumb to get it right but kodi got the other shows correct

I've just tried this and all seems to be working:

  1. Remove already matched Dragon Ball from Kodi (right click on the TV show title -> select Manage... -> select Remove from library -> Confirm removing by clicking Yes)

  2. Put parsing nfo file named "tvshow.nfo" in Dragon Ball folder to exactly match Dragon Ball (1986) (otherwise, the show is incorrectly matched as Dragon Ball Z Kai (2009)). The parsing nfo file must contain only one line of text:

https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/12609-dragon-ball

  1. Update Kodi library

Here is a screenshot.

it worked. but had to change things. you know what the problem seemed to be? the folder name! without the year it worked like a charm. Thanks again :)
