thanks for the respond
@talestalker those naming conventions are used, still have problems.
the metadata is parsed for the show but not for the episodes.
any idea?
Remove already matched Dragon Ball from Kodi (right click on the TV show title -> select Manage... -> select Remove from library -> Confirm removing by clicking Yes)
Put parsing nfo file named "tvshow.nfo" in Dragon Ball folder to exactly match Dragon Ball (1986) (otherwise, the show is incorrectly matched as Dragon Ball Z Kai (2009)). The parsing nfo file must contain only one line of text:

Hi, csab.
I'm relocating this thread to TMDb's API Support forum, where someone may be able to help.

There are Kodi wiki pages about naming here:
https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/Movies
https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/TV_shows
and if everything fails, you could always try to use parsing nfo file:
https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files#Parsing_nfo

I've just tried this and all seems to be working:
Remove already matched Dragon Ball from Kodi (right click on the TV show title -> select Manage... -> select Remove from library -> Confirm removing by clicking Yes)
Put parsing nfo file named "tvshow.nfo" in Dragon Ball folder to exactly match Dragon Ball (1986) (otherwise, the show is incorrectly matched as Dragon Ball Z Kai (2009)). The parsing nfo file must contain only one line of text:

it worked. but had to change things. you know what the problem seemed to be? the folder name! without the year it worked like a charm. Thanks again :)
