The Movie Database Support

There are many video series made by YouTubers not necessarily in coorporiation with YouTube Red. VSauce has a series called Mind Field that is listed as a tv show, whereas for example the math YouTuber 3Blue1Brown has multiple video series including for example "Essence of linear algebra" (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZHQObOWTQDPD3MizzM2xVFitgF8hE_ab) that is not listed as a tv show in tmdb. Is it allowed to add these to the database?

This is a definite great area for us right now. There's some ideas that have been floated around to better support "digital first" content like this but I haven't really made up my mind about where to draw the line. This is the hard part about opening up our rules a little bit. There is a line where we want to say yes to maybe some content, but then no to you know, just some kid's random YouTube channel. I can tell you that I don't want to make TMDb a YouTube index of sorts because that is just not something that is interesting for TMDb.

For now, what I can tell you is, we support all YouTube Red/Premium content. Everything else will probably get deleted.

Seeing as there is a response here from Travis, I thought I'd just link some relevant posts of mine around this "grey area"...(as in, if non-YouTube Red/Premium content should be removed, then maybe these "digital first" content should be removed too- or whenever this "grey area" becomes resolved)

EDIT: I'm implying that when you say, "Everything else will probably be deleted", you mean that this comment in the contribution bible will be removed:

YouTube content:

Short films, feature length films and series uploaded directly on YouTube (excluding YouTube Red original content) are subject to the amateur content guidelines.

...and instead of content directly uploaded on YouTube being subject to amateur content guidelines, they will just be always not allowed and removed.

One for The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, Grandmother's Gold and Web Series: The Movie.

Two for Well, Who The F*** Are You..?

Another yes, for now. Travis has talked about companies asking TMDb to allow more direct to YouTube (or Vimeo) content and this seems like it could fit into that.

Three for Pure Camp.

Four for Besties.

So, to recap, it wasn't produced by a established production company, the director and the actors do not appear to be established, and it's only available on YouTube. The first episode screened at REELING but, as far as I can tell, the festival doesn't qualify for an exception. But, on the plus side, Bob the Drag Queen is somewhat famous. Though call. Let me ask for a second opinion. I don't want to abuse the "established artist" clause.

And:

Well, I didn't get any clear objections. So I think you can go ahead and add it.

Five, for Profiles by VICE.

Six (I can no longer find the relevant post...or at least I think there was one) for "crash course" entries like this. (i.e. maybe all 30 similar tv entries here should eventually be removed?)

Seven for Farmlands (and web series "#Farmlands: A series from South Africa")

Eight for Drag Becomes Him (the web series).

Nine for Internet Icon.

Ten for Reality Gamemasters.

Eleven for Salad Fingers.

Twelve for Afflicted, Inc. (and a few other short films by Anna Akana).

Thirteen for MotherLover.
